With today's loads and choke tubes, do you believe there is there noticeable difference between a 26" and 28" barrel?

About 25-50 fps, depending on caliber.

The main difference between a 26" and a 28" is that you'd be 2" closer to the target. Other than that, I don't think there will be a measurable difference in pattern or range.
You may find that your swing is smoother, or quicker, or (whatever) with a longer or shorter barrel, but that more of an issue with sporting clays or skeet.

No difference in ballistics (the powder is all burned at that point).

2" longer sight plane for more accuracy

When I graduated from a 20 to a 12 gauge, I went to a 26" barrel, didn't notice a difference at all...
In college my buddies use to laugh at me because I hunted with a 20 gauge... Guess who usually killed the most ducks...

i think i posted something similar a couple months ago. I had a glock 380 and a 17 mach 2 my dad was wanting, and gone trade me his brand new benelli vinci. I decided not to becuase it was a 26". All i have ever dove or duck hunted with was a 28".

longer barrel - puts the noise further from your hunting partner's ears...
easier to follow through with a longer barrel.
I don't like being in a blind with 26in guns with me.. .period..

Because of the noise?

Used to use 870 26"
Now use 870 28".
I like the 28 much better.

More scattered shot when it hits the choke with a longer barrel. Everything that shell is gonna do is done around 22-23". I prefer 26"

Never really bothers me to have someone in the blind with a 26, but i tend to wear a little hearing protection.

I like a 28 better for ducks and doves and quail.
Some quail guys like those short barrels but I don't.

Interesting.
I asked the same question last year and I think we came to the conclusion of personal preference.
Although a 28" barrel would probably fit my tall lanky arse better, I have used a 26" gun my whole life so I am comfortable with it.
I think I am going to pick up a few extended length chokes just to make up an inch and a half or so of pointing distance since I do find myself stopping the shot too quickly.

All of my newr shotguns have 26" barrels. I prefer them.

Little bit longer sight plane with 28". The modern loads and powders used now makes the 26" a non issue performance wise compared to the 28".

For dove or quail I like a light 26" 20 gauge.
Ducks and geese 28" barrel is the way to go
