LINK best bait for Op/flathead/Tabby is find a sun perch. With the orange belly. You find those and every hook will have a tabby. At least most will. Its that way on the West to East pearl rivers amd.every other waterway ive ever ran lines. Run limb lines, canes, the noodles or jugs on a river wouod be a no go for me. Not regular perch or bream this.exact type of sun perch. You find those amd you found a gold mine

We make our weights. A pack of cheap 20 oz plastic cups. 40 lb sack of concrete, and some wire (coat hanger size) cut about 6" and bent into a u shape with the ends then folded out. You can make about 25 weights with a small sack of concrete. We use Trotline Clips to attach the jugs to the weight.
We do use about 25' line. With a 3 way swivel about 3' under the jugs. Off the 3 way we have a 60lb mono leader about 10" long with a circle hook. Sometimes we fish the Intracoastal and need the longer line.

I thought all of the pool noodles floating about the lake were community property. Y'all actually put them out yourselves and pick them up? I always thought it was just a friendly service for folks who wanted some catfish but didn't want to actually do anything for a catfish. Damn, someone ought to put out a PSA or something.....
When I have done it I always use 3-5 feet of heavy line, about 1/3 of a pool noodle and a 1 ounce egg sinker. Bait it up with whatever you have, live bream are my favorite but shad and herring works as well, set them afloat in the evening, pick them up at daylight. On rivers or lakes with a lot of current I stick to limb lines. Don't do either much anymore because no one eats catfish but me and my dad. Its fun for kids though.

This is one of my buddies specialty. If you are in BR metro area im sure he could invite yall to try it out. We catch good but a lot depends on river stages
Eta: been since a while. Good ideas in replies but use the KISS method

Cleaning wasn’t too bad. I don’t skin them like many people do. I just fillet them. Took 2 of us about hour and a half.
