How far away is it legal to shoot a gun by a school. Like the 100ft rule for roads. I know that school property is gun free, but is there a distance that extends beyond the school grounds considered illegal to discharge a firearm? Just wondering.

I think it is 1000ft

I also thought you could shoot a gun as long as you were 50ft from a road too, so TIFWIW.

Yes, not only can a firearm not be discharged, but they are prohibited within 1000 feet of school grounds / campus

Crap. I live less than 1000 feet for school property. The building is further but property is close.

As I understand it, inside your house is fine, as well as going from house to vehicle, but if your backyard borders the fence, you should not play with your guns in the open

So the rabbit I shot on the property line a few years ago wasn't a good idea?

Technically not, but I used to run a trap line directly behind my school back pre '03. Used subsonics to keep the noise down.

How many of you rednecks used to drive straight to school after a morning hunt, gun in the truck?

Raises hand

When you can find them, I'd invest in them. While not as "devastating" as full loads, they are fun as hell. Shooting a post 50 yards away you can hear the bullit hit, and close range shots on animals work just as well as a LR.

I never liked early morning hunts, I might've still been awake from a late evening hunt though

Not a problem in LA as long as gun stays in vehicle

Why would you ask this question? If you think you are within measuring distance, you're too damn close.

Are you asking me since I'm the OP? I have no real intention of discharging a firearm within the vicinity of a school anytime soon, it was just a legal question that I was pondering.
