I've never seen any data to indicate that deer numbers in this state are declining. Why do we need to shoot fewer deer in the first place?

I don't believe we need to, not on a statewide basis, anyway.

Anyone claiming deer harvest is declining due to lack of deer isn't paying attention to the hunter trends. Hunter numbers/efforts are trending down as well.

However, this rumor doesn't appear to be the result of those claims but rather the idea that Louisiana can turn into a "deer destination". So basically, it's not a biological argument, but a "we need more OOS hunters because our license sales are going down" situation.

Under the current fee system, it Costs a resident up to $50 to hunt deer if he hunts primitive and bow on private property. It costs a nonresident $352. That's the equivalent of 7 resident hunters.

Under the new fee system going into effect next year, it costs $35 for a resident to hunt deer. It costs a nonresident $300. That's the equivalent of 8.5 residents. The state is losing money on resident deer hunters starting next year--and a pretty good chunk since the new resident fee structure is a 30% reduction for deer hunting.

Nobody "needs" to do anything recreational. You're just arbitrarily deciding that your way of using the states resources are more right then someone else's way. You've got the magazines and TV shows in your corner, so obviously its the right one to be in.

Unless the state deer herd as a whole is in peril, you have no more argument wanting to trophy hunt than a guy who shoots 6 deer a year and enjoys doing it.

it why Louisiana is and always will be the shitty deer hunting state compared to ALL of its neighbors.

Have you seen some of the bucks coming out of La the last few years? Seems like the herd and the trophies are doing just fine.

Lol and i fully expect all the "Im gonna shoot all my deer im a ignorant low IQ mothefricker" replies

The irony of this is the fact that Mississippi allows MORE deer to be killed in some parts of the state, and Arkansas has several zones with 5 deer limits. So who's ignorant again?

How many people talk about Arkansas and Mississippi as "deer destinations", anyway?

And before you make the "ignorant motherfricker argument", I have never shot more than 1 deer a season.

I'll hang up and listen.

All of this is a rumor!!!
#1 --Louisiana can't change laws -cause no one agrees.
#2--No one is coming to Louisiana to hunt out-of-state-when they can go to Texas or Missouri.
#3--People would just kill and bring it home without tagging or using others tags,
I am all FOR IT!! I hunt tensas/BL/BH area, all LAWF GW worry about is WMA license and if you tagged your deer.

No you're not. Nobody's right. You're assigning value to rack size. Others do not care. The state cares about overall population.

Overall, probably not, but I am guessing there is an imbalance between public and private areas. Hell, Bayou Cocodrie actually issued a statement about their decline and took steps to address it.

My first deer was a 3pt. It was one the happiest moments of my life.

Thats how it should be handled. Regionally or locally. Statewide less deer, or statewide less rifle season, or statewide whatever makes zero sense.

My son's first deer was a button buck. And you couldn't wipe the smile off his face or mine for 2 days.

Exactly, when I was at LSU studying deer management and worked for LDWF(for a brief stint), the management goal was for everyone in La to have equal opportunity to harvest "a deer" not a "trophy" deer.

There will be an uproar if it's done correctly. That's because private lands will basically have no meaningful limit, and public will be super restricted.

I think that would be amazing to bring the herd back. I can only hope and pray that happens.

Our regs should be region specific though like Texas. What is good for St. Landry Parish is not good for Allen. Tag draws for public land would also be a plus. I will never forget the slaughter of 2016 on a certain W.M.A. when 800 deer seeking refuge from flood waters were killed in less than a week with "primitive" firearms. It has not been close to the same since.

I wish we followed Texas's fishing regs for sac-au-lait and bass too.

That is what DMAP is for. You would still be able to do it.
