Laws in relation to the 2 guys that were caught shooting the deer with fine shot

Say I have a private piece of land that I can deer and duck hunt on. I take my hunter's orange with me, and I also bring a rifle and shotgun in for a deer hunt and a duck hunt. Only way to the land is by long four wheeler ride or boat ride. I start the day duck hunting, then finish up and go put my shot gun back in my boat. I grab my rifle for an afternoon deer hunt, and walk to my stand. Is this considered legal? Are there ways to get a ticket for this?

Are you going to shoot a buck with fine shot and no license?

Pretty sure this is going to be the deciding factor.

Of course not, but I’ll technically be in possession of it on my deer hunt. That’s why I’m asking what the law is in this regard.

That's legal on public land. I asked an agent that very question at TW, and he said it's fine.
The cynic in me thinks he's setting me up, but there really isn't anything in the regulations that says it's illegal.

Now that could be interesting. Common sense says you don't have the gun to shoot the bird shot, but technically, you aren't supposed to be in possession of it.

By in possession of the shot I mean it’ll be in my boat. That means if I end up with a couple of ducks and a doe. They are all on my boat, I’ll have the fine shot for the ducks, and my rifle for my deer. Does the game warden have the ability to differentiate between the 2 hunts without writing me a ticket.

I don't see how that would be any different than it being in your truck, and according to the GW and TW, there's nothing illegal about it. I drive around with my bow and shotgun in my truck all the time.
If the guy can't figure out that the deer was shot with a rifle and not a shotgun, he probably shouldn't be enforcing the law.

That’s what I was thinking, but I just wanted to see if others interpret it differently before I try it.

Bring a bow also, just to mind frick the officer.

I was fined for having a 20 gauge birdshot shell for rabbits in my boat during a duck hunt when we all had 12s

Before we get to far into this. what State are we talking about? Louisiana?

im pretty sure they also make tungsten buckshot... I don't think theres a law saying you cant have or shoot that while duck hunting either

Depends on if you want to gamble on the officers interpretation of the law. The law says it is illegal to take deer with a shotgun loaded with anything other than slugs or buckshot. If you have the birdshot on you, does it become an issue? The law doesn't say you can't possess it, but that may not stop him from giving you a ticket.
I'd be real curious on the interpretation there.

If you shoot the deer with a rifle there is nothing to worry about. Big difference in a high powered rifle to the chest and bird shot to the neck on a deer.

I have always wondered if I could get in trouble somehow for carrying a pistol while duck hunting, which I am always doing.

Which is what I'm worried about

Is a slug considered a lead shot since it is not buck shot and is more a bullet than shot? or is the standard cant have lead ammo?

There used to be shot size regulations in the pamphlet, but I can't seem to find them. Maybe they removed them, but the slug would be a gray area I guess. Not sure how that would be handled.
