Besides rays (as in sun-rays), nope. Not a damn thing. I have really bad coon-eyes right now though...and am a red-neck, in the literal sense of the word(s).

I've been meaning to guy buy one of those Top Dog's and give it a whirl. My uncle swears by them, and he's caught some monster trout in his day.

red/white, chartreuse, and bone are my favorites. I love fishing but when they hit on topwater nothing compares. You will have fish slap it 3ft in the sir but the big ones just gulp it down with hardly any splash.

We don't trailer our boat and it has 150's. My dad was there the week before but just took it to decade and took a nap

Coming from bayou decade you run across lake Paige into eagle lake and into goose bay. The cut bt eagle lake and goose bay is deep but once you get into goose bay it gets shallow fast. Get on plane in the cut and haul arse across. Never a good idea to run across there on a north wind low tide day. Seent a many of people high n dry. If you are running the raccourci from bayou decade just follow the white pipes across. Never had any issues. That lake is only a couple feet deep anyway. Like topwater said... You can catch some decent fish on top this time of year (anywhere, not just mechant). I'm ready for em to move offshore... This bass spawn was early this year

So say I wanted to get out to Mardi Gras or Coon Point, I assume you just go through Mechant into Caillou Lake and out through Grand Bayou Dularge? Just looking at google maps here, lol.

We usually put in at jugs and run bayou dularge to caillou and south through grand bayou dularge. But yes, coming from bayou decade you would need to go that way. Just make sure u have a big enough boat and watch the weather

Yeah I've been out there once on a 32' SeaVee...but we have a 22' Blue Wave. I know many people that go out there in 22' boats, but definitely only calm days...I'm not that brave

Yeh. We go in 22-24' bay boats all the time... Just gotta go when the weather cooperates.
Did y'all just get that camp or something? Seems like if I had a camp on bayou decade id be fishin mechant all the time.
Btw, the cut bt mechant n calliou is money for huge bull reds. Get a heavy enough weight n some cracked crab n an ice chest of beer n have a good time

We've had the camp for probably 2 years now, but have only had a fishing boat to keep there for almost a year (had a 23' Sea Ray before). We had a camp in Cocodrie 5ish years ago, so I know that area a little better. We are slowly learning the Decade area. We've got a couple of good red-fish holes out toward Lost Lake and that's where we fished pretty much all summer. When the water is running right we bring home a limit of 17-22" reds every time.

Used to fish those areas A LOT. When conditions are right it can be great fishing. Just got away from it since we offshore fish for trout in the summer now.. We bass fish fall, winter n spring (and bad weather days in the summer)

FWIW.

I rather Lost Lake for decent sized reds and all of the North side of Mechant for specs this time of year.

Ya you might know who I am since my name gives it away. The cousin you would probably know has initials MM. Getting the boat fixed up right now and as soon as work slows down I will be out there with the other 80 boats fishing the island I am sure.

Great advice from all who have posted. I love Mechant and Sister (Calliou) Lake this time of year. Also, if you hit either one of these lakes right now look for birds. There are birds feeding on shrimp and other bait fish all over the lakes. Ease your way to them and try to be as quiet as possible (drift)into them. Of course you will catch more throw backs as these fish tend to be more of the schoolies but you can catch a few good fish. I like to stay over the reefs as much as possible in about 1-3ft of water. Look for the white PVC poles in the lake as the oyster fisherman mark their reefs with PVC. Good Luck

I would like to add to this for those that don't know.... Smaller trout will school up and force the bait to the surface and then begin gorging themselves in a frenzy... They leave behind pieces of the bait that smaller fish will eat.. I.e. croakers. The BIG trout, the ones u are after, are behind the birds feeding on the croakers (or other small fishes eating the left overs from the schoolies). Try to set up your drifts along side the birds. Not in a direction where you will go right through them and scatter the fish. I'm not a big bird fisherman but this is true words

Yep. I'm closer with the younger MM. Grew up with both of them though. They were my neighborhood gang

I have seen bateaus at coon pt. 22ft bay boat is plenty of boat to go to any of those places. I ouldnt go when it's 3+ waves but that is more bc I prefer to fish where it's comfortable than worried about swamping the boat. I just jeep a very close eye on the weather.

Pay attention to the sportsman he seems to know the area very well. Bayou decade to mechant is tricky. I really hate shallow water.

Yeah, one of our camp neighbors went out to Coon Point in an early 90s 18-20' Cajun bass boat. That's batshit crazy IMO and I don't even know exactly where Coon Point is
