If you know anything about Mary you know her pups are generally sold without ever hitting the ground.

I have a female from one of her puppies (FC Candlewoods as Good as it Gets FC Candlewoods Ebonstar As Good As It Gets/Izzy (FC 2xNAFC CFTCH CAFTCH Ebonstar Lean Mac x FC AFC Candlewoods Gotta Be Good (full sister to Lottie)). 44.5 All-age Points. 4 Open WINS, 2 AM 2nds. 2005 National Open Finalist, 2004--7 series National Open, 2004--5 series Canadian National, 2003 Canadian National Finalist and the only other dog that did not handle during the week-long event. OFA LR110779G24M-T, Eyes CERF LR-41055, AKC SN59650218. Littermate to FCs/AFCs. QQA age 2, 20 Derby points.)

I would look at LINK and find a breeder there.

I would not recommend Wildrose Kennels.

I hope Mike has cleaned up his act from when he started his operation.

What are you referring to? I've never heard anything bad about their dogs or operation.

Wildrose is one of the top breeder for English Labs in the country and I know two guys that have dogs from there and absolutely love them.
Ducks Unlimited got their dog from Mike.

My dog and her puppies

My dog is June and she just had a litter. By far the fastest dog I have ever seen and would rather retrieve than eat. Her father was Roux.

Hmmmm. I just don't feel like going into it.

Good for Mike and his kennel.

I'll leave it with this: There are certainly varying opinions on Mike, His Father, and their training methods within the Oxford community.

Frankly: I am surprised I am the only one with a negative remark. Not too many Oxford natives frequent TD.com apparently.

My last lab came from Bart Posey at wonderlabs kennel and he was a great dog. I would have gotten another lab from him but he didn't have any for a while and he had only blacks. I prefer yellows. Bart was a great trainer.

My current pup has been in training with Steve Riggins at bear creek on the bayou for a week and is doing ok after a week. Can't wait to hunt him next year.

Well, Is it just Mike or does this go back to Robert Milner?

He started Wildrose and recently starteed another kennel (that I just found out about) call Duck Hill Kennels. It's only about 20-30 minutes from my house.

I am referencing PRE "DU Drake" days. There is too much money, advertising and reputation on the line with Wildrose these days for me to anonymously spew off at the mouth.

So, just leave it at this:
Would I get a dog from them? NO.

Will a dog trained by them /from them hunt? Emphatic YES

You endorsed his kennel being from Memphis. I said I didn't like his kennel- being from Oxford. I tried to search for what I was referencing on public records and could not find it on Google, so I am dropping it. Wildrose is great

I understand your concern. I own English Bloodline Labs too, except they came from England- as in dad flew over on a plane. Not sure they can say that.

Lots of money and hype are involved in that operation now. So, I don't want to get caught in that buzzsaw.

ETA: you won't be making a mistake, he's just not my first choice. Not even in Oxford.

Was about to throw down a deposit for an $800 golden from Katy tx when my dad called me with a freeby. Best dog I have ever owned. After this season I'm going to look into field trials she's that good. Don't spend all that $ specially if your not gonna breed em, like he just said....they are just dogs.

This. Labs love to retreive. its in their DNA not in the number of benjamins you put down for it.

Post back how that goes. You might want to cut your teeth on hunt tests.

The filed trial game is a lot tougher than it looks on paper.

Just dogs, indeed. Of course PP7 is just a person as well.

OP isn't even sure he's going to train the dog to hunt which likely means he's not which means the dog will eat, shite, and run.

ON the wildrose kennel debate....

There isn't enough money in the world to make me take a dog from there.

Bottom line he has some nice English dogs and is an absolute WIZARD at marketing.

My advice for someone looking for a puppy...

Go to a hunt test and then to go an English field trial. You will see what each dog is bred to do and see which fits your desires for your dog.

There are some hard running english labs but most are bred to be steady and not move and for many of them their personality shows this. I like a dog that runs hard and hits the water hard. While there are many English labs that will do this there are more that won't.

Amen.
The hardest word in the English Language for a Labrador....HONOR.

ETA: On the English Labs- I like the temperament of the English. I'm not a balls to the wall duck hunter anymore. I want a dog that has a "switch" and can turn it on and off. I also like the stocky/blocky look.

Some of the field trial bloodlines are all go and no quit, which I can appreciate- but I don't want. A Field Trial Lab is certainly not what I am looking for when House Dog / Pet is its primary role in the family.

My dog is a puppy still but I don't think I can tell yet the difference between the two. I had mainly american labs my whole life and this one is mostly english (I think-Dad's dog to mine pics a few pages back). I can't tell the difference. My current puppy was nuts up until I sent it off last week (hyper and loved to fetch just like all my other dogs). My last lab was from Bart Posey-Wonderlabs and he likes and had American Labs. I guess it's too early to tell with my puppy yet.

I'm not sure I understand the debate I guess. People are saying they like to be able to turn the dog off. My last dog (american lab) had as much drive as you will "ever" see in a dog and he was nuts while training but if I removed the dummy/bird/tennis ball he was calm.
