Wow do you have a picture of the 6pt!?
Posted on 2/19/25 at 4:56 pm to WestMTiger
Quite a 6 point,congrats.
I had a bad year.Too warm,I had pictures of some good bucks, all at night.
Only thing I killed was a small 7 pt.,chasing a doe.
Saw 7-8 small bucks,spikes,3-4 pointers.

Can’t stand those things. Hunting on public land we saw these dudes on those e-bikes hunting at fricking NIGHT. Can you believe that? Pisses me off man…scum of the earth to do that shite on public land. Best believe we went straight to the green jeans and tried to get their arse busted. No luck tho.
frick a EBike.

quote:Meh. I'll use mine on approved trails only. I still hike plenty far after parking it. But yeah, it pisses me off when I see someone riding it in the freaking woods! I had a guy pass under my tree on his ebike 2 seasons ago. I was waiting on some bedded does to get up and walk past me on a worn trail that I'd seen them walk a few days earlier. Instead, I got to watch them get scared off by the guy on the bike.

Area 9 private land shot a 11 pointer, my personal best deer.
Did some area 4 public hunting. Close encounter with a decent six pointer. Killed more squirrels than last year. Overall a pretty successful season gonna get a shoulder mount out of the 11 pointer.

Season was horrible. I killed two does. Passed 2 spikes and a 7. I only saw deer on 4 hunts out of around 40 sits. Many that hunt the public we have a camp had much worse seasons. It was hard to find a deer turd much less see a deer. The state's open season mentality on public land is taking a toll. Crossbows and "primitive" rifles have been detrimental to the deer herd.

quote:Dang. Which WMAs/NWRs are you hunting? I mainly stick to a bow hunt only NWR and an NWR with very few rifle days. Maybe I'm lucky though, because I do see plenty of deer on the WMA that I hunt, and it has a total of 24 days of rifle/primitive hunting.

What are you people defining as "plenty deer"?

Most people (not pointing towards you mrcoon) don’t realize some wma’s/nwr’s have deer but you have to put in the work to find them and stay on them. I love the term 90% of the deer use 10% of the land.
Also it’s not terribly hard to get away from people on some wma’s. The areas I hunt in MS have less pressure than my private hunting club.

When only 10% of 70,000acres has deer on it, that's problem. It doesn't mean there's plenty deer. Most of our public land has single digits deer densities. That doesn't equate to plenty deer.
Our public land is getting the communist treatment. People are forgetting what plenty deer looks like and now think the shite hunting is good hunting and are okay with it. The same thing is going on with ducks. My jaw drops every time I hear people claim we have plenty ducks.
Another error is thinking because you personally had success it means things are okay. I know a lot of very good hunters that had bad seasons. Trust me, I put in the time and miles. Huge areas that normally always hold deer were empty. Everyone ended up on top of each other for gun season, and I found more empty feed bags than ever. People were getting desperate. Things are not good on most of our WMA's.

Killed an 8 point when it was almost 90°
And walked through 8 inches of snow to end up killing an 8 point. Wish I would’ve gotten to track it in the snow, always been a bucket list type thing. But he dropped

Hunted a lot after Thanksgiving. Saw very few deer. Am more aggravated over the mysteries of the SELA "rut".

DO NOT GO OFF OLD SPOTS is what I learned the hard way this season!! You have to adjust and I failed that big time this year. Once I got out of my comfort zone and usual areas I started seeing deer again just not the right ones cause I was late to the game.
Scout, scout, scout and scout some more. Of course check out old spots but don’t be afraid to seek new areas. If deer have moved out of area or coonasses have moved in to your old areas and ran everything out.

Look up Simmons sporting goods big buck contest.
You can scroll down to the 6pt division and pull up pics. I can’t ever remember how to post pictures on here
