Some of you know there are two live cams on Kincaid with nesting eagles. The one behind the tram lost the female. This video shows her appear to have a seizure then fall from the nest. From the description:
quote:

Early the next morning, Cody Wayne of KNF, assisted by Steve and son, went to retrieve her body. Andria seems to have died on impact (and it stands to reason - I did not see her using her wings during the fall). USFWS granted permission for a necropsy. The results should be available in a couple of months.

The live cam shows the male intermittently sitting on the eggs which are thought to be non-viable.

Did I just watch an eagle die of old age?

Possibly ate a poisoned rat or coyote carcass?

That was strange.

Some have speculated. I will try to monitor for results.

This is what I can't get people to understand. You use poison to kill rats and they they end up dying where other animals will eat them. That is simply passing on the poison.

What if the slaughter houses adopted that method to kill the cows and chickens. Would anyone be ok eating that meat?

So Eagle gumbo would be a bad idea?

Yeah I saw her in there with him earlier. Still sounding like the eggs are done, though.

a properly poisoned rat doesn't have enough toxin to kill an eagle...

but the jacklegs poisoning coyotes - yep makes them a federal felon when they get caught.

I'm not familiar with the area, is this a place where there might be lots of people poisoning rats? Near a large population area?

Also, I read on the internet that eagles won't eat carrion unless it's small enough for them to pick up and fly away with. I do not know if this is true, it's what I saw on internet. If that's the case, then even a poisoned coyote would not have caused this.

People get really triggered when a bald eagle dies, and always jump to the conclusion it must be a human's fault in some way. They are wild animals that die for all kinds of reasons.

I wouldn't think so. There's people that live on the lake, but have no idea if they are poisoning rats often.
