Anybody following this story of the big Kentucky buck shot recently? Seems to be a little controversy.

After spotting him from his box blind while drinking a coke, then glassed him with his bushnell binos , and proceeds to stalk him with his raven crossbow.
I guess he’s waiting to see if it’s a legit record before picking out what scent and broadheads he was using .
Was telling a buddy about it this morning. It’s sad that as soon as I saw it I immediately thought pen deer and when I read the story I knew pen deer.

There's a picture of the deer on its feet in the article before the shot.

Should be easy to match that picture to the property the guy claims to have been hunting.

Or prove that the picture is shopped.

Aw baw. Cmon now. He thought it was a pile of sticks, that's why he had to get his binoculars and get closer. Never crossed his mind it was a big deer he'd been taking pictures of in his back yard.

If only he could have gotten the video footage before the squirrel barked his insta would have blown up.
I missed that part, belly crawled up on a world class deer in field and tried to get phone video before shooting it.

Just from what yall posted my theory is he bought the deer from the high fence operation, tied it to a tree, then shot it.

Editors note mentions Facebook comments. Anyone have Facebook where you can see exactly what is being said? Looks like the deer was seen on a Indiana high fence operation, sounds like it was an escapee?

Here is a similar story I saw on MeatEater this week, but they all knew up front it was an escapee

High Fenced Deer Escaped

quote:

EDITOR’S NOTE: When the photos of this deer were first sent to us by the hunter, Derek Settle, our immediate gut check was: This is a high-fence deer. Before we interviewed Settle, we confirmed with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife that the buck had been checked in as being killed and tagged in Kentucky on telecheck. (High fence deer in Kentucky do not have to be checked in.) After our interview with Settle, we were confident that his story was true. However, after now reading Facebook comments and seeing photos of his deer that were posted on the page of an Indiana deer preserve, one thing is clear: Someone is not telling the truth. We are investigating this story and will update you as we learn more.

[quote]Editors note mentions Facebook comments. Anyone have As a family farm we never thought we would be in this kind of situation, you always want to be trusting of hunters and give those the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, that can’t always be done. In regard to Field and Stream story about Mr. Settles deer, it was in fact harvested from our preserve in southern Indiana on 9/9/21. Unfortunately due to the nature of the situation and the privacy/safety of the hunter, we are not able to post information that contains his personal information i. e. address, phone number. We have spoken with Field and Stream employees and have sent them all the necessary information to prove that this deer was not harvested on Mr. Settles land, rather harvested from our preserve. The truth will come out.

This was from a link on Facebook,,, a farm patoka river whitetails made that claim.
We may have a cripple dude paoaching with a cross bow coke drinking lying bastad on our hands here!!!

If he actually did this, what a fricking dumbass! Pretty ballsy to think he could pull it off without getting called out. And then to be brazen enough to do an interview about it with F&S.

That post makes it seem like he paid for a deer hunt and got what he wanted.

Then just claimed he shot it somewhere else.

Doesnt seem all that "illegal", but seems incredibly stupid and he just wanted the attention.

If anything, he just wasted his tag.

That's what I got from it as well. Social media attention whoring claims another one. The internet really is the worst thing to ever happen to our species.

If he transported it to Kentucky from Indiana then he may not only have wasted a tag but get charged with illegally tagging as well as transportation across state lines and violating CWD laws.
Article states he a union worker with a herniated disc in his neck ,, I wonder what workmans comp will think about his climbing up stands and belly crawling 300yds!???
