Wow, if this is true, Mr settles will be hit with a felony and I hope he goes to jail for a long time

From their post I didn't read it as he was poached rather he purchased, hunted and killed the deer on the preserve.

A few years ago, a farmer from the MS Delta tried to pass off an Illinois preserve buck as the new Mississippi state record. He concocted an elaborate story how he killed it at Catfish point. The whole story didn’t add up to other club members, and the game and fish guys proved it wasn’t a MS deer through DNA testing. He narrowly avoided jail time. This was a mid fifties wealthy farmer trying to get credit for a deer record. It is sad what people will do for attention.

That's what I got from it as well. Social media attention whoring claims another one. The internet really is the worst thing to ever happen to our species.

Well he’s getting lots of attention. Was reading through the comments on the preserves FB and someone posted a snip showing that he tagged 2 bucks in KY within a couple days of each other. I googled the regs and it says only one antlered buck.
If that’s true, can you imagine a world where someone is so dumb that they not only took a deer from out of state but tagged it illegally to the point they exceeded their max bag limit trying to be famous but thought nobody would know!!!

Have y’all seen the latest? Guy reaches out to F&S to tell them his story, then blames them for believing his and the state for not deleting his check in.

F&S article

quote:

September 17: We called Settle for a comment about the evidence supplied by Patoka River Whitetails. He replied via text message and asked that we use his words exactly as he texted them to us:

“My comment is that yal got the information all wrong about the locations. The KYfwl Conservation was contacted Sunday morning on the 12th to delete the entry on the Ky Harvest Site. Weather or not it has updated or not is out of my hands. Obviously the pictures of my buck had previously been leaked on social media throughout the week, even though I never posted it. My point is that the fake news media is at a all time high and dying for a story without fact checking the information before publishing their articles. And now I to am a victim of this. On the record. That’s my response.

“I made the entry into Ky telecheck by mistake, thinking it was required in order to transport the Cape into ky. Which I immediately realized was not required after checking on the KYFWL website. Therefore attempting to contact KSP and Ky Conservation to delete the entry. Which I couldn’t do until the following morning. 9-12-2021. On the record. Please use my words exactly as they are. And I’d appreciate no further contact.”

Later on September 13, Settle sent F&S photos of the buck he claimed to have killed on his property in Henderson County, Kentucky, and communicated with us via email. Before we interviewed Settle, we confirmed that he had telechecked a buck in Kentucky. We then conducted a phone interview with Settle, who told a compelling story about a DIY-style hunt that he said took place at his property in Kentucky. We pressed Settle on the type of property where the hunt took place, and he was adamant that it took place at his 5-acre plot in Henderson County. After the interview, we felt confident about the authenticity of Settle’s retelling of the hunt and began to write the story. We gave Settle the opportunity to review the story for accuracy before publication.
