Kenner Hull Value

Looking at a 96 Kenner 21 rolled gunwale Deck was redone by a shop in 2016 with receipts. Comes with a tandem aluminum trailer no motor. Guy wants 7k. Worth it or keep looking?
Would really like one of the frontiers but haven’t had any luck finding a used one.

That’s a pretty good deal, assuming the floor was done by a reputable company.

You got any pictures of it?

You are not going to find a Frontier in the stratosphere of $7k.
How old is the trailer? Is everything in good working order? Tires... good tires or junk (even new tires could be junk). Does the trailer fit the boat?
I wouldn't spend $7k on a project boat that is 25 years old right now, but used boats have been hot and that might be the price to pay for a solid hull with good trailer.

Yes I missed 2 frontiers in the 17 - 20k range recently. The only thing I can see that needs attention is the the front console seat cover.

Buy it
Hang a merc 150, ulterra, 9” screen, 10’ pp and go kill fish.
You’ll be under $25k and have more boat for less than any 21’-22’ on the market.

Depends on what was redone 6 years ago. If the hull is solid I'd throw a 2021 Suzuki/Tahatsu 150 on it and go fishing, but I'd put more than $7k in the TM, Fish finder and shallow water anchors.
I only picked those outboards based on price, I am going with a Yamaha on my bay boat because of the package pricing from the boat manufacture, I don't think there is a bad 150 outboard out there right now.

I did exactly what you are looking at right now. I found an older Blue Wave with a POS Yamaha big block HPDI, talked the guy down to a super low price. I’ve since repowered with a Suzuki 200, added an Ulterra, power pole, fixed some glass issues, recovered all cushions, added a amp and new speakers, and added sea deck. After all that I’m still under what I could find a new 22’ bay boat for.

I have a 2001 Kenner 21 and it’s a great boat. The reason I wish I had a frontier instead is the drainage and storage. The Kenner is supposed to be self bailing but the scuppers stay under water so you have to plug the holes and then the water has nowhere to go. Storage needs differ from person to person so you know if it’s enough or not.

sounds fun but I still think your looking north of $20K to get it fully rigged.
I would also look at the re-wiring process. Is this something you are comfortable doing yourself?

Refreshed Kenners are really awesome. I'd like to get my hands on an 18v model with the front boxes like the one below.

What's under the front deck of a Kenner? If you were going to spend $15,000 to refit one I'd think you could have someone add some storage there for a reasonable amount.

Not sure what fills that void under the front deck. In the 18s the plastic fuel tank sits under the center console. Not sure if a forward fuel tank is a good idea with the banging around but it would be nice to get it out of the way.

My friend has a 21 Kenner hull. Im not sure what year. Ill tell you this. That thing will never sink. Weve gotten it trapped under docks due to rapidly rising water overnight. Had it list sideways at Pilot Town after having a foot of water in the boat at the Head of passes in the Mississippi. Turned the bilge on and stood on the side sticking out of the water and that baby was back completely above the water in no time. The thing could fill completely with water and it wont go to the bottom. very good hull imo but i dont know what their going for.

GT. Thats exactly what I’m looking at. He had this boat for sale with an old motor but has gotten rid of it and is selling just hull and trailer which is fine with me.
The one drawback that has me interested in the frontier is that exact scupper issue. Especially with the weight of the newer motors.

FYI. Early model frontiers (210 Models/half cap) did not fix this issue. I owned one and hired someone to move the scuppers. Mr Kenner fixed it once the newer frontiers (214 models/full cap) hit the market.
Can’t go wrong w old Kenner.
