"Black Panthers" are melanistic leopards. Why does nobody ever see a regular old spotted leopard?

No, black panthers are melanistic jaguars...endemic to central/south America. And a jag was spotted in AZ last month (with 'spots'). Even melanistic jags have a spotted pattern if you look closely....hopefully from outside it's cage.

Actually, "black panthers" don't exist, it's just a generic term of a melanistic cat. Yes, jaguars can be melanistic, but it's more common with leopards in india.
