I had a 01 model TJ with the 4.0L and 3 speed automatic. It was great in the city but sucked on the interstate as the engine would hit some high revs at 70mph due to the 3 speed. If i didn't have large toys to pull i would definitely drive a jeep again. I may end up getting one as a third vehicle one day though. That 4.0L inline six has a shitload of torque.

I've been doing it for almost 4 years now. Had a '91 YJ back in high school and college. Sold it and I've had pickups and SUV's since then. We sold my wife's Accord and got her an SUV, and I didn't really need to have the "family car" anymore for road trips and such, so I started looking for a pickup. Never could find what I wanted, and eventually found my TJ on craigslist. It is a 2004 and only had 33k miles on it. Almost 4 years later, I'm just shy of 59k miles. I'll probably drive it for a long time. Those old 4.0L engines will run forever.

My wife ended up getting pregnant a few months after I bought it. She bitched and moaned about me getting another family car, but I told her I had always wanted another one, and this one was in such great shape that there was no reason to get rid of it. It still had 4 seats, and we had her vehicle for trips. Kids don't need much room in the back anyway, and 95% of the time I'm driving alone. It took a freakish snow/ice storm a couple of years ago and her being stranded in her van for her to realize having a decent 4x4 is worth it. I got us all home safely, and she vowed to never complain about it being impractical ever again. Plus, my daughter loves going for a ride with the top down. Especially this time of year when I drop her off in the carpool line and she starts waving to all her friends.

Like someone said, you either love it or hate it. I wouldn't get a YJ for a DD. Buy a late 90s or early 2000s TJ. If you can find a TJ unlimited, get that. Especially if it is a Rubicon.

2006 TJ Unlimited is my commute vehicle. I love it. But I probably wouldn't if my commute was on highways instead of mountain roads. It's definitely a rough ride.

There's not a chance that you're seeing 18/22 in a Rubicon JKU

I have a YJ I drive daily but only have 10 minute drive to work, town for the boys ball practice and other quick trips, but I live in a smaller town. I have another truck for pulling trailers and road trips.

I've got a fever to get one of these. Especially an old YJ. I currently drive a '10 Tacoma that's 4 door and 4wd

I have jeep fever bad right now. I've owned both a YJ and a Tacoma and I wouldn't swap the Tacoma if it's a DD. I'm currently looking for a TJ as a second vehicle.

Where ever that is, I want to live RIGHT there. Right where the jeep is sitting. IT's about the only reason I don't like Tuscaloosa... flat as a damn pancake. Of course, brutally hot too in summer but w/e. I need that mountain.

I've had it for about 15 years. There's just not enough space for plywood and lumber. Maybe one day will get a play toy.

my cj7 was my daily driver for december and january when my wife's car was in the shop. if not for the fact that i have two car seats in my truck, it would have continued to be my daily driver. 15 min commute, btw.

I drive a 15' JKR with a manual & 4.10s and my overall average is 16.7. It actually gets worse on highways & interstates

As long as you have free towing and rental car on your insurance policy, I don't see a problem.

TJ is much better riding than the yj you mentioned in the OP.

Still will beat you up if you drive any distance

work is only 5 minutes away, but my hometown is only 45min-1hr away. the WMA shooting range is only 30. i can't see that being a major issue unless i really go out of town on it. which is rare.

were you able to see the pics? you think it's in good shape at first glance?
