First year in 20+ I have not made one trip to the blind. SW La share clubs are down 50%+++ from last year and next year they will be down again. Salvania is killing the marshes here and crawfish/cane north of eye ten. Growing up La was #1 or #2 annually in ducks killed nationally, we are barely in the top 5 now.

Kemo. The way I am finding ducks this year

Finding spots w no apple snails or salvinia = score but I have noticed even in those spots ducks move on

Place I cut my teeth on in Jeff Davis 620 acres

31 ducks this year

That was a day. Even in 3/30

And I’m willing to wager the Apple snails are far more sinister than we really comprehend right now

I think some of the younger Instagram stars in NELA got busted by green jeans 2 weeks ago.

Have yet to set foot in a blind this year.

We have a slough that cuts through some hardwoods between row crop tracts - May go out there this week and lean against a tree.

Going forward the plan is to hunt some BWT early fall and book a nice hunt in Kansas in early Jan.

Talking with a bunch of 15 guys - many of those leases will be abandoned next season. Same in Mer Rouge Bonita area - the blind lease guys are tired of paying 5 figures for teal shoots.

Guides throughout NELA are cancelling booked trips because hunts are so bad.

If we get birds, you must be next to or in timber - the mallards simply avoid the field now days....but the number of quality hunts, in the best spots in NELA are down to 4-5 a year at most.

I thought the UFWS use DU due to being understaffed and under funded? They use there own studies and numbers but also utilize DU?

Anything around little Missouri happening? Those were $10k-$15k blinds years ago. Figure all of the Kennedy blinds are that or more now days.
Starting to believe the number conspiracy guys on total ducks.

Gotta be next to woods

Otherwise, teal hunt only

Prices on blinds in NELA about to drop cause the diehard with money are moving out

We are going to lose the couple guys from ouachita parish we lose to - can’t blame them for getting out

There’s an impoundment 5 miles north of mer rouge across the tracks with plenty of woods. Don’t go up after dad died to ride around and look for birds anymore. We are a mile north of gallion and 1 mile west as crow flies.

Dropped our blind in Bonita and in Gueydan this year.

The buddy I am going up to Ark with may be dropping both of his places up there.

One around Portland and the other around Wheatley.

My buddy in Field 4 out there is probably going to lose a few as well.

He has a couple of boys that hunt public and they hunt it hard. All over Mecca too. They have been killing birds and Mallards at that but they work their arses off for them. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are ducks in NELA.

So wait.... there are still people here that give two shits about BS duck numbers that Larry Reynolds puts out? Yall do know how full of shite he is right???? NO fkn way yall believe him anymore. Do you really need some DU mascot telling you what we don't have anymore. We as an active group out in the field as a whole are way better representation than anything he can put out. Made my first hunt as a 10year old in around 1985. We had plenty ducks everywhere. Mid 90's started a drastic change. Seems to be cut in half damn near every two to three years since. Your hens are not brining their young ducks back to the bayou state in significant numbers. People argue our landscape has changed and it has. But there is still more than ample wintering grounds loaded with food. Problem is if they have never seen it there is no reason to ever come. With mild winters north or Arkansas and no need to attempt anything south of Branson MO....then why? The next generation of ducks never try it and BAM the education is gone the internal map is deleted. Food sources in the Midwest have stopped the need to fly south. We need to ask big questions with these numbers down. How bad is not letting ducks not winter in an invertebrate rich environment hurting calcium needs in egg production? How are egg shell density without these nutritional goals meet? Its not just about corn. Ducks need a winter load of protein the Midwest is not supplying. Its a loss no one is wanting to talk about.

we don't have near the invertabrates that we used to.... thanks to changing rice practices and more so from siltation in some marshes and of course the invasive trifecta.
