Hey guys,
I've removed a gun from my wish, list without buying it. For some time, I've wanted to buy a CZ rifle in 22 LR. I had settled on the 455 last fall. The version I liked had a black synthetic stock, a blued action&barrel and sporter weight 20" barrel (w/ the muzzle threaded). It was basically a no frills gun. I was ready to suggest my children to make it my Christmas/birthday present when I heard the 455 was being replaced by the 457. The main improvement I liked w/ the 457 is the "American" safety that moves forward to disengage. They listed a version similar to the 455 I liked. I decided the 457 might become my "Father's Day" present. As Father's Day approached, I found out the version I wanted was no longer in the CZ catalog. The available versions all had longer barrels, wooden stocks, shorter bull barrels or fancy tactical synthetic stocks (adjustable length of pull and comb). So after waiting all this time, the gun I had my sights on is no longer available. I wanted the CZ so I'd have a bolt action 22 LR w/ a threaded muzzle to use w/ my Spectre 2 suppressor. I've got a 30 year ol Ruger 77/22 that I really like, but the muzzle isn't threaded.

So the CZ is off the board.....for now. I'll probably send the 77/22 off to have it reworked. I've looked at the Tikka 1x and it looks VERY promising, but I'm not ready to spend that much money right now and availability is limited.

CZ 22s should really be wood/blued IMHO. They are just beautifully crafted guns. Never getting rid of my 452

You make a good point, but the wooden stock version has a 25" barrel. Like all my other guns, this will be a hunting gun, not a bench gun. A 25" long barrel is too long for a hunting gun.

Thx for the suggestions, guys. After more research, it looks like the muzzle on the barrel of my 77/22 is too thin to be threaded. I've ordered a shim kit that (supposedly) takes up some of the slop in the 2 piece 77/22 bolt. Hoping that'll help w/ the flyers I get w/ the 77/22. It only cost $10 so if it doesn't help I won't be out much. I'll keep my eyes on the 457 hoping one of the distributors will have a model w/ the feature I want. If not, I'll get a Tikka T1X once they become more available and prices have come down. I live 5 hours from BR so traveling there's not an option. If I come into a windfall and feel like spending more money, I can always order a Shilen match barrel for the 77/22

Got a 455 last year and love it. As stated, the wood stock and w/ blued steel is of the quality that it will make a fine heirloom. Great rifle especially for that price-point. I do wish i would have waited for the 457 as the safety is the only thing I'm not a fan of.

Never put my hands on a 455 or 457 but I can tell you, I love my 452 American.

I never could find a CZ that I like. I found a Ruger Precision 22 at academy and I've been thoroughly impressed.

Now I understand that it is probably not what you're looking for but it's really well designed gun with the adjustable trigger.

I have really enjoyed mine and it's very accurate.

Put a CZ back on your list. I'm not a gun collector. I just have a few for specific purposes. I'm happy with my 455 American. It shoots squirrels.

I have a 452 trainer with a beechwood stock, 27" barrel that is no longer made. It has outstanding iron peep sights and is very accurate , balanced and well made. Love it. Also own 2 CZ pistols. I highly recommend anything CZ makes.

Just because something was discontinued doesn't mean they no longer have any for sale. Is this what you are looking for? You could always get the barrel threaded for around $60 - $70

CZ 455 20.5" Synthetic Blued

Yeah, that's the version I originally liked, but when they came out w/ the 457 and it's improvements I decided to go a different route. It won't be long before my grandkids are old enough to start shooting a gun. Due to its "American safety," the 457 is better suited as a teaching gun. I really wised they made a 457 just like the model you cited, or a wooden stocked 457 w/ a barrel shorter than 25". Barrels that long just don't balance well for me (especially w/ a suppressor added).

Good question. I've got a Savage bolt in 17 Mach 2 and my son has a Savage bolt in 17 HMR. Both are very accurate guns. I've considered a Savage bolt or Ruger American, but I doubt I'd find one more accurate than my current 77/22. Yeah, the Tikka (or CZ) will cost more, but I expect both to be more accurate than others (expect an Anschutz.
