Was on the trip. First time snapper fishing. Caught a monster 29incher. Best fight I've ever been in
time to move up to amberjack. then to tuna.

no, theyre just so overpopulated, they take over the triggerfish and amberjack populations. people just go cull them out for no reason. makes for a fun trip and good fight

Gray triggers are, but no queen.

None of those are queens...they are all greys. As someone else said you may want to take the picture down and get the fish rules app to know what is in and out of season.

So according to the GOM council the recreational grey trigger season reopened on March 1, 2018

BUT
According to the Louisana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries the season is closed from June 1st thru July 31st.

So what is the correct answer?

It was a charter boat. Captain should have been aware of rules and not let them keep them IMHO

Exactly.
I don't expect the anglers to know, but the captain and crew should damn well know!
Looks like LDWF missed the opportunity to generate some revenue.

If you are going into Louisiana waters and the state season is closed, you are illegal.

There aren't a whole bunch of boats that can take out that many people for how many red snapper there are in that picture out of fourchon.

I do as well, and hope that the situation is approached with zero tolerance. I feel the same way with people going out 2 times a day for limits of red snapper.

But But But...endangered, rare, never found in the Gulf. How is this even possible?

Nice catch.
