A man that doesn't fear a snake is not a man of God. And if I can shoot something I fear, I'm going to blast it.

Am I off base here?

Doesn't matter how many you kill, if you let your kids run around barefoot in wet places like that, they're gonna get bit.

If I find em near the house, I'll shoot, but poppin one you just find in the middle of the woods or on a creek bank is a waste of lead.

I waste lead on a lot more meaningless things than snakes

I suppose the two ladies arguing over if its "right" to shoot a cottonmouth for shits and giggles must see them in the woods or near there house and be like.....

"hey billy, there's a cottonmouth on your porch"

Billy in turn says "Aww, let him be in his natural habitat because he is one of gods creatures. Why waste 'lead' on a precious thing like that. He means us no harm. Now please hand me over my cosmopolitan daiquiri I just mixed"

I knew I would be in the minority on this, but whatever. I see no reason to kill a snake if you happen to find one while walking though the woods. Is there some fear that the snake is going to start stalking you and somehow follow you home?

I have come across many snakes in my ramblings and almost all of them will either stay still or slither away if you don't bother them. Obviously if one poses a danger that is a different situation (stepped on, about to strike, etc.). To just shoot one that is minding his own business because you are in his territory doesn't seem like good outdoor ethics to me.

I've shot plenty dumbass, whenever I'm working near the creek I've got the 12 with me. I'm sayin it's fricking stupid to walk up and down the creek shootin every one hangin off a log.

You know what cottonmouths and copperheads eat? Rats and frogs. Rats suck on their own to have, but think what else eats frogs. Coons. Ever seen what having too many coons near deer feeders looks like? They'll rip the things apart. If it really gets bad, they'll get in the attic of your camp, and destroy the place from inside out.

But you keep right on actin like a hard arse.

what if its an area you hunt/walk regularly. are you gonna leave him alone and risk the possibility of getting bit at a later date? i wouldn't.
