I had a few instances of being caught in the middle of a mess of them while bow hunting in October so I didn't have a gun. Would spot one on a creek wall I was slipping down then I'd see another, and another, and another, and another.... All around me and I still had to get out of there without getting bit.

Ok now I got the creeps! I remember similar instances, very unsettling to see them all around you

Ok, you know I had to jump in here...I asked the husband snake-freak sitting on the couch, and he agrees with AlxTgr, that it's a Banded Water snake (Nerodia fasciata). He says it looks more like the kind found a little farther east, not like the Broad-Banded ones you would normally find around here though.

Where was this picture taken?

I've realized I should not have included the broad. It's not that.

Originally thought copperhead. I have had them submerge to get a bream on a stringer before. They will not only go in water, they will even go under.

More times than not, water snakes are mistaken for moccasins. The coloration of this picture, along with the lack of head and eye shape, make it hard to call.

After zooming the eye, I would officially have to go with water snake.

It's not a moccasin (colors aren' right)' The body is too skinny and the head ain't right.

Same reasonw it's not a copperhead.

My guess is it's a watersnake.

No, it can't be broad banded. It's the plain Banded. Those saying copper head are retarded.

Mother fricker, I'll fight you with my judge and we'll see who the dumb arse is.

Oh, and if you're going to insult people's intelligence, please use the actual plural form of dumbasses. Also, the name is copperhead, not copper head. Thanks for playing, fricktard.

No new pics, Meaux?

In the second pic, the juvenile cottonmouth banding is different. The banding has a light inside surrounded by a darker outline on the bands where the snake in question has similar shaped bands, but solid coloring.

nope. The guy hasn't come back with any more pics.
I still think it's a cottonmouth.Too many similarities with the shapes of the bands.
I'm not really paying too much attention to the colors since the snake is in the water.
Also notice the hoods over the eyes of the snake in question.
