That is absolutely, without a doubt, bet my life on it, banded water snake. Wrong coloration/head shape for a copperhead plus too thick and the eyes are too close to the nose. Not a juvenile cottonmouth because it has too much girth to be that young. Not an adult cottonmouth because the coloration is wrong and the eyes are too close to the nose and too on top of the head. The eyes are key. I'll post pictures in a second.

i'm late to the discussion here.

but coming from someone who has killed and skinned more than 20 banded water snakes... Its a water snake people. Its not dark enough to be a cottonmouth, and too big to be a baby cottonmouth who do tend to be lighter in color.

Cottonmouth bands have three parts. Somewhat like jaguar spots. Spots within an outline. That snake has solid bands.
