Increasing accuracy with a bow

I picked up a mission bow a few weeks before bow seasoned open. I've been practicing and I've gotten to where close groups at 20 yards is just about a guarantee. Now I'm really focusing on 30 yards. My groups or not where I want them. Wondering if anyone has an idea to try to get tighter groups. Or what goes through your head during a shot? I'm good with a rifle, pretty good with my red dot on my ar so I'm using that same technique and that may be my problem. I use gold tip hunter 400 arrows so they aren't expensive. Do I need to upgrade my arrows? See below for an average group at 30
Yards. Some will be tighter but this is the norm. [/img]

Low and to the right means you might be squeezing your grip after you pull the trigger on the release.

I was going for the middle target. Should clearified. So I'm typically high and right.

Your stacking vertically, which is good. Means you are consistent in your grip and not over-torqueing.
Work on getting the same, consistent release anchor point, every shot. Even if it means adding a kisser button.
Also try ,making a smaller dot to aim at, either with a marker or spot of paint. Smaller target means you have better understanding of where your groups are going and can work on tightening them up.
Also number your arrows to ensure you don't have a bad arrow, or consistently low, etc. sometimes turning the nock to change to a different cock feather (vane) will help tighten it up.

Open up your left hand and see what happens

....aim small to miss small
You keeping everything consistent.. same exact point of contact (relaxed) left hand placement, anchor point, stance?
type of release?

Any difference between using a D ring or not?

I'd say you're pretty dialed in, and that I'd focus on reps and consistency. Maybe try smaller pins, and just focus on small aim points.
Not bad though

I am glad you started this thread. I've wanted to ask the same questions you did.

Try following your shot through your sigh, instead of moving the bow to the side to see where the arrow hit

Try shooting at 40 or so - 30 and in gets easier.
Also was told to not aim so much as hover the pin over where you want to shoot.
I'm by far no expert though.

Make sure you have a very smooth release and you're not snatching at it. That's my biggest problem

Lots of good info to start with, thanks guys! I'm using a cobra trigger release, I guess it's called a trigger release. It was $40. Guy said it was good.
I have a dead nuts 3 sight. And like I said some $8 gold tip hunter 400 arrows. This is my stabilizer. Did I do ok with getting a starter setup? I know good techenque beats good equipment all day just want to see if changing something would help as well. Or what should I upgrade next?

Try shooting 40. I your groups move farther right then obviously a sight adjustment is needed. If you have a level check it also as your aiming. canting a bow can cause left or right misses as well.

Who set your bow up? Did you tune it yourself or brought it to a shop?? Have you had your draw length measured??
Posted on 11/3/16 at 8:36 pm to rsbd
I bought it from a local shop and they tune it and measured my draw. it's why I didn't go used because I had no clue. Eventually I want to get a nice Matthews. Not sure which one I tried but it was $900. Have a little boy due in March so I decided to get the mission. I'll upgrade the bow later.

Can't help you with the bow.
I can say this-
Buy as many toys as you can before the baby gets here. Once it is here, it way harder to buy something for yourself.
Congrats on the baby!! They are awesome.

Are you shooting with both eyes open? If not, try it. It really closed my groups up.
How are you aiming. Vertical grouping will never be really tight if you are centering the pin in your peep. If you aren't already, you need to center the sight ring with your peep.
Other than those two, it just comes down to having a consistent anchor point.

Try shooting with a smooth glove on. It'll reduce your torque to nill and you'll be much better

I shoot it with two eyes open. Which is strange because I can't shoot a shotgun with two eyes. I either see two sights and 1 bird, or 1 sight and 2 birds. No problem with my bow sights for whatever reason.
When I shoot I center my sight with my peep. The biggest improvement came when I started paying attention to where everything was touching on my face and nose. I've gotten consistent but I just can't seem to get tighter groups now. I'm going to try the things mentioned so far in this thread and see what happens.
