In "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" during the church fight scene Antonio Banderas is shooting with rubber gun props because Mexican customs blocked their shipment of realistic (blank firing) props. There was a behind the scenes video where Robert Rodriguez (the director) talks about how they had to constantly reshoot the scene since Antonio had to shake the guns as if they had recoil, and while doing so he would unconsciously mouth gunfire sounds.

Not really an inaccuracy, but something that I found pretty funny.

Not sure exactly which one but one of the early saw movies the girl had an apparatus around her neck that had half a dozen shotgun shells aimed at her head with hammers cocked...every primer was dented already

Not a 44 mag? Mind = blown. I was at a shooting range one time and saw a guy try to go Dirty Harry with a 44, he shot it one handed, missed what he was aiming at by a wide margin, he did manage to hit himself right between the eyes with his revolver though.

Saving Private Ryan - good representation there.

That's the one thing that really bugged me about that movie. They've got people shooting Garands about 600 rpm with 0 recoil.

It's as if no one in that movie had ever even shot a Garand.

False. It was a S&W 29 in .44 mag custom made by Smith and Wesson specifically for the movie.

am I going to be annoyed all the time at the inaccuracies that are shown in movies and tv shows?

Good lord yes. It's terrible.

Every time a gun moves, it sounds like somebody racking an 870.

Everytime somebody picks up a pump they have to pump it, whether the guy who had it before did it or not.

All guns hold about 50 rounds

The list goes on an on...

That's what I had heard too, but according to this LINK it was a custom made S&W Model 29.

quote:

The now iconic revolver carried by Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) in the film is a Smith & Wesson Model 29 with a 8 3/8" barrel, chambered in .44 Magnum. As the script originally called for a Smith & Wesson Model 29 with a 4" barrel, this eventually proved troublesome for the filmmakers, since the Model 29 was no longer in production at the time. Before shooting began, Eastwood contacted Bob Sauer (then a representative for Smith & Wesson) to acquire the gun for the film. It was a challenge, but Fred Miller at the plant had a couple assembled from parts eventually.

Nope. It was a 41 mag. The 44 wasn't ready in time.

I just looked at hashbrown's link, and there is a screen shot from the movie where you can read .44 Magnum on the barrel of the gun
