I've been all over the US in summer months, it's hot everywhere across the South but this part is the worst of the worst. Draw a triangle from Houston to Shreveport to Lake Charles. That's the absolute worst. Probably Lufkin being the epicenter of hell. Fort Polk too. Absolute temps get higher across South US as you move West. However, there's a zone that capture absolute hell over triple digit temps, AND has the extreme humidity. That triangle is the epicenter of where it mixes to be the worst. And when I say worst, I mean if you average heat indexes, maybe like 3 to 4 degrees hotter than a Jackson, MS, and 5 to 7 degrees hotter than an Atlanta. Just my experience.

The most bizarre thing about Houston is that dozens of times I'd look at weather app when I was in Houston, and it was 104 in 2023 Summer with 40% humidity. Galveston, was 89. Houston was just inland enough to not get the huge lowering of temps like Galveston gets.

Places with concrete and pavement and glass get hotter than places that are sand, dirt, water, grass.

Fort Polk
Polk left said it was too hot, now we got Ft. Big Johnson. Lived here most of my life and if I had a quarter for every soldier or spouse say how hot it is down here, I would have some beer money. Flew to Lauglin Nevada on a junket. Landed across the Colorado river in Bullhead city and when we walked off the plane, the heat was assaulting. It was Labor Day though.

Only sorta related, but, was yesterday a really low maximum temp for May 11? We actually lit the fire pit.

Yesterday in South MS, I checked my weather app radar as soon as I woke up to see if I could cut the grass. The app showed 59 degrees! I scurried my arse outside to drink my cup of coffee.

Same. Amazing weather on the coast. Knocked out all kinds of yard work I had been procrastinating on
