Be careful sleeping on those beaches. Some bad stuff happens on them because they are very remote. Had an unfortunate event many years ago while camping at about your halfway point.

I’ll do that

eta - wind died and I couldn’t test the sail out. Tomorrow’s forecast looks better

Do you care to elaborate?

I’ve heard multiple people tell me this - I’m strongly considering taking a firearm.

Brief update -

Not dead,
Good News

Was beginning to wonder.

Here's a couple forward stroke videos now that you're getting somewhere. First one is real generic and hopefully nothing new. Don't know this guy but he's an industry stable and usually more correct than not. Second one is by Boyd a guy I know and he not only talks a good game. It'll go into more detail and offers more nuanced information that works even though he's in a whitewater boat.

A good forward stroke is going to be key to getting in the miles your after. Which maybe hard at first, but soon becomes like walking, which also takes a while to get into racing or marathon phase. It'll be worth getting correct before picking up bad habits. ... G'luck

First off, I think your trip sounds awesome and in no way would I try to discourage. Second, this happened many years ago when I was a kid, cells phones weren’t really a thing. We were camping and doing something else we shouldn’t have been, nothing too bad, but could have gotten us in a bit of trouble. We had an accident and were forced to try and walk 20+ miles at night because there was no other way out. During the day we ran across three people. One of them was nice enough to give our location to authorities. The other two apparently were not, even though they were cool to us, they laughed at us. Because of where we were the authorities did not initially believe why we were there and our chance meeting with the other two gentlemen necessitated a lengthy conversation with fed leo. I would say it was long enough ago to not worry but I have friends up and down that coast still tell me in some places it’s as bad or worse than it was years ago. Many things wash up on those remote beaches, and people. Sorry for the novel, but that’s the story.

————————

here was an ER doc at Earl k long years ago that did a kayak trip from Mexico to Venice. He followed the coast the whole way. It was a pretty neat story and he was a hell of a nice attending. I can’t recall his name though? Maybe his last name started with a P? Any of you guys go through the earl and remember this guy?

I’ve been enjoying kayak/camping videos from one of your fellow Texans gatewood brown, look him up on YouTube… he also has a line of dry bag and backpack that I’m going to buy called remote designs. I really like his new kayak, the old town sportsman 120. Going to buy it. Get a hand bilge pump, he has one, can’t remember brand but seems necessary for a sit in yak.

What ever became of this? Has the trip been done or did you lose interest?

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER is a bad time. You will loose the south winds. The prevailing wind will be the most important factor
