I want a long range for a 16" AR. I want a shorter range for a 16" AR and I need either a red dot or holographic sight for an AR pistol 10.5".

I'm not looking to spend $1000 per but I can spend. I've never put serious consideration in to the glass on my ARs, only my deer rifles, so any help is appreciated.

I also wear glasses if that matters. I do have issues with scopes sometimes because of that.

Tons of options but, I have a Leupold mark ar 1.5x4 it’s been on my 223 and now my 6.8. Glass is clear it has been dead on for several years now even with a few drops and bangs against bikes boats and blinds.
They have a caliber specific full size model that I wouldn’t hesitate to buy based on the luck I have had with the 1.5X4-20mm.
For a red dot the vortex sparc is a very good option for the money 150-200$.
But if money is not an issue there are tons of options!!

In my opinion. You can’t go wrong with Vortex Viper or Leupold VX 3 and above

I’m sure you realize that a long range scope for a 16” AR is a bit of a waste. But since you specified I’m sure you know that.

What brand of rifle are we talking? I usually like the price of the glass to reflect the price of the rig. For example, my Aero Precision 308 wears a Leupold VX3.

By long range I mean 300 yards. That's what I was trained for open sights so I figured if it's good enough for open sights I can get a bit more "up to par" with some good glass. All of my Ars are built by me using various parts so there is no "price per say". They vary.

I've looked hard into Vortex and medium into Nikon.

Shorter range Leupold VXR Patrol 1.5-4
Longer Range Leupold VX3i
Red Dot Aim point

If you want to spend a little more coin the Vortex razor GenII 1-6 has amazing glass. I have one on my SBR 11" and the FOV is badass.

“Long range” - vortex pst gen ii 5-25

“Midrange” - vortex pst gen ii 2-10 in whatever reticle matches the 5-25 you get.

*i’d look for scopes that have the same reticle just to make things simple. Take a look also at the Nikon black series (no 2-x so that would be a deal breaker for me for mid range) as well as the Burris xtr ii series (5-25 and 2-10 are available power ranges)

Red dot - eo tech and aimpoint is usually my go to. EXPS 2-0 if weight isn’t and issue, aimpoimt micro if it is.

I like my holosun red dot. Aimpoints are the standard though.

You can connect at 300 yards with a 2-7x or 3-9x. And I guess your “mid range” would be like a 1-4X. Agreed with others that Nikon, Vortex, and Leupold have good offerings. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, Meopta makes some very good scopes.

For red dots, get an Aimpoint Micro or a Trijicon MRO. The micro-style dots weigh very little and have a great field of view. They also have a ton of battery life. I’ve maybe turned my Aimpoint off like 5 times in the past 4 years.

Was looking at the Vortex Venom and Burris Fastfire III but I'll check the other two also.

ETA: Also looking at Eotech

For your long range, I’d highly recommend Leupold vx5 HD 3-15x44.
It’s an awesome scope and not very heavy.

Aimpoint t2 or comp m5.

You will be under $1k for all of these. Those new Meoptas are the best glass for the money hands down right now.

Good suggestions so far but I’d look at the gold dots from Holoson. I don’t know if they have more than the one I got (they just came out) but I really like the gold...easy to see in the day light. I haven’t shot it yet tho.
