Thought about posting this on the OT but figured I wouldn't get many constructive responses so here goes....
I'm having a cockroach problem at home.. Every night I kill at least one or two and they DISGUST me... I have an infant at the house now and I've found them crawling in the cabinets in the kitchen...
I am living in a duplex that was completely renovated while waiting for my house to be finished... I have always kept my apartment clean and even more so now that we have a baby in the house, but I can't keep these filthy MFers out...
Besides calling an exterminator, are there any options for me? If I do call a professional, is it guaranteed that they will rid my apartment of roaches??? Enough is enough
TIA

This stuff last 3-6 months. Store in a cool place it was last a long time. Safe for kids and pets once dry, just spray around doors, baseboards in kitchen, etc. Places you have seen bugs. Also spray around the home on eves around doors and windows (kills spiders)

Since I live in a duplex and share a wall with another family do they have to use it also for it to be useful?

it is pretty expensive, but the best thing I have found is bengal roach spray...it will have roaches crawling out and dying before you finish spraying. It lasts a long time and it is totally odorless....

Thanks guys for the help...
I'm glad I didn't have to scroll through two pages of 'you poor' and 'you dirty' comments before getting some help
That's why the OB is the best on TD

or you got AIDS seems to be a favorite on the OT.
Just don't come to the OB though asking about how to kill snakes. Snakes keep the rodent population in check.

I use this around the perimeter of my house. Works wonders. Immediately after spraying, bugs I didn't even know were there were running for the hills.

You have to kill them in your space and the other duplex space. If you keep yours cleen and your neighboor is a pig your gonna have a bad time.

Spraying will help, but you will need to bait as well. If it's german roaches, they will be in walls, and appliances. They lay egg sacs (oothecas) near heat to incubate them for the last couple of days. Spraying only works for the ones that come out and cross the residual.
Having german roaches isn't always a sign of nastiness. Anything you purchase, from food to clothing usually goes through these massive warehouses. That's where some are brought in. Other times, with used electronics.
A professional can get rid of them, but it's not an overnight fix. Sometimes it takes a couple of treatments. And you're right to get rid of them. They can be nasty, crawling through sewer and then across your counters, spreading bacteria onto food surfaces. And in large enough populations, they can create respiratory problems in children, including asthma.
I have really good success doing an initial treatment with P.I., a flushing, contact kill aerosol spray (need to leave for this, it will choke you), then a thorough crack and crevice spray (Demand CS) and finally, where they likely are harboring (fridge compressor, microwave, stove, dishwasher and voids around cabinets, hinge areas) with Advion roach gel. Some of those are available over the internet, but I'd recommend biting the bullet and getting someone who guarantees their work, and you'll be rid of them faster.
The reason they're hard to get rid of?
Each female and her offspring are capable of producing over 600 cockroaches in one year.

Jesus Christ man.... Thanks for the help... Those things are so frickin nasty... I live in Belle Chasse close to a wooded area so I'm guessing they are German roaches
You sound well versed in pest problems.. Are you a professional?
ETA: did a little research on wiki, looks like an American cockroach

Sounds like a terrible thing to have around the lungs of an infant.

The big ones are mostly an occasional nuisance...they come from outside especially when rainy...I hope I never have to see the smaller (german) cockroach in our home...
spray your window sills door sills and entry points and you should only see them when they decide to come in...and then they will be already dying from contact...

LINK would be fun to try/watch if nothing else

John Bossie tried Roach Motels. He tried Combat. He tried an exterminator. Finally, in desperation, he took home a gecko.
He has not seen a roach since. The ferocious little lizard that barks like a dog and has feet like suction cups is a natural predator of roaches.
And it is a natural ally of New Yorkers who don't mind falling asleep to the sound of scurrying and crunching, scurrying and crunching.
