Really? I've never heard that.I've always seen/heard to line your fence with lime.

It's because it's not true.

Naphthalene is a chemical that would iritate a snakes belly if you laid him on a pile of it. He would then slither off of it to avoid it.

Snake Away is a product sold that contains said chemical, but is laughable when it come to price, effectiveness and amount needed to actually repel snakes.

Napthalene just happens to be an ingridient in mothballs. That's where the idea comes from...

Unless you covered your property like a fresh hail storm with mothballs it won't repel snakes.

Would box turtles help or just add to the pollution?

Like how Disney uses cats for their mouse problem?

I have a three bed room trailer with $20-$30 worth under it from the dollar store. I wholeheartedly believe it repels them from my camp

pondboss is a great forum for pond building information. There are a few guys from Louisiana on there that will help you.

zipline is a little rusty. It looks as though it hasn't been used in years. But I'm down to try. Before I try, I want to make sure i'm not going to drop in a moccasin nest Or land on a loggerhead.

Good. The placebo effect is a well documented pshycological practice.

I'm just telling you that habitat modification will go further than some anecdotal evidence from your grandparents. Mow the grass, remove debris, and poisoning rodents are much better routes to reducing snake populations.

I mean, wouldn't they be called "snakeballs" if they really worked. Way more people are worried about snakes than moths.

I don't know about the turtles but the catfish are constantly digging into the mud.

Well I did admit that keeping the grass mowed was part of the snake proofing!!!

Wait, are you saying some people don't want snakes around? What kind of screwed up thinking is that?

You've gotten soft buddy. I remember you taking on an Alligator out the canal.

I'm more afraid of snakes than gators too.

Depends on the place. You don't want them in a fenced in back yard where a 2 year old wont know the difference.

On some land to keep rodents and bad snakes away sure.

For sure, and I'm not trying to get in an argument with you.

Do what feels good.
