You can add a lot to get the deep looking blue color or as you need just to block off some of the sun light.

All fish keep a good color with the blue. Don't know about the black or green.

how much we talking here?

Tractor Supply has a product called Blue Bayou that they put on sale in the spring time for $30 gal. 1 gal treats 1 acre 4 feet deep. A pond that is used for fish production should not be clear. You should not be able to see your hand underwater when your arm is past your elbow underwater. If it is too clear you probably need to add a fertilize to the water to promote algae growth which is the start of the food chain. When fertilizing if using a dry fertilize build some kind of structure to support the bag of fertilize and let the wave action disperse it. If you just throw it in the water it will get tied up in the soil on the bottom of the pond and you will not realize the full benefit of the fertilize.

True. I put 13/13/13 in mine. I take a couple 5 gallon buckets and drill a shite load of 1/4" holes thru the sides and hang them along the banks in about 2' of water. I do this once or twice a year. All depends on how much fresh water make up I get from rain or my well.

Now, were the hell is Nascar.
