Get a savage, if you are looking for a big aftermarket.

The man said he wants a light rifle.
Anybody who said somethin other than tikka T3 lite is wrong.

I believe the model 70 feather weighs about the same as the t3 lite.

To some degrees it depends on what you mean by "light rifle."
Tikka T3 Lite: 6 1/4#
Wichester Featherweight: 6 3/4-7 1/4#, depending on caliber.
Ruger American: 6 1/4-6 3/4#, depending on caliber.

Get a savage and spend the money you saved on quality optics.

It's a little heavier, and half the performer
Eta: that's not fair of me to say. It's not half the performer of the tikka. It's just not likely to be as accurate and damn sure doesn't have that oh so damn sweet tikka trigger.

I shoot my uncle's model 70 better than my buddy's t3. That's just me though. Plus I prefer merican made weapons.

One of the great things about America is that (at least for the time being....) we have a number of good choices when buying a gun. I can't comment on the Tikka based on my personal experience as I don't have one and neither do any of my hunting friends. OTOH, I've read a lot of good comments about Tikka on the 'net. I can comment on Savage (and Stevens, as well) as I've bought, handled, shot and own a number of them. Although there are certainly better looking and more refined guns, I've never been disappointed by the accuracy of the Savage. For a hunting rifle, I've been more than satisfied w/ the Savage Accu-Trigger.
I hope I get to play around w/ a Tikka someday.

+1000. I used to look down on Savage as a "cheap" gun, but after owning and shooting several, I have nothing but praise.
ETA-and I have some high end rifles that don't shoot worth a shite.

I've shot the 700 and the 70, and I like the 70 better.
They're saying that the new Winchesters coming out of South Carolina are as good as or better than the pre-64 rifles.
I'm in the market for a new featherweight, compact 70 in .308. 20" bbl, 39.5" OAL, 6.5 lbs. short action. They don't offer it in composite, though.
They are so behind right now, you can't even back order them.

Tikka
Have one and a buddy has a Model 700. He likes to shoot mine when he can.

+1 for the Savage. This is my everyday hunting rifle. Also, I have no problem dragging it through the swamp with me due to the fact that I didn't give an arm and a leg for it. I have a couple of high end rifles as well, and refuse to bring them through the swamp as I don't want to damage them. Makes them kinda useless I guess.

I would go Browning or Winchester. Actually, I would just buy a custom action and then build what you want, but that wouldn't be in that price range.
