The most important of the three things you mentioned is teaching the kids.
YMMV, of course, but in my experience, revolvers make better "trainers" than semiautos -- it's easier for kids and adult newbies to learn the elements of safe gunhandling with a revolver.
And for newbs, I think DA's are better than SA's, partly because DA's are easier to UNload, and it's a little easier to VERIFY that EVERY chamber is empty.
Once the kids become accustomed to safe gunhandling, you can "allow" them to "graduate" to a semiauto -- which gives you an excuse to buy another gun . . . or two. . .
I have to admit. I feel this is some pretty good advice.
I might have to consider the Taurus 9shot DA. Its about $100 cheaper than either of the Rugers too.

I hear 22 rat-shot is a real manstopper, second only to the mighty FOUR TEN.

Thanx.
It's good to know that us geezers can still be kinda useful, from time to time . . .
Good luck.

What are some of the prices on these guns?

Beretta Neos, fun to shoot and it looks like something out of Star Wars/Battlestar Galactaca.

The cheaper ones are in the $250 range, and the Rugers are more like $500.

I have seen browning buckmarks for 350 in brick and mortar stores. They have a bunch of lil of variations that affect the price.

This is what I have and I can shoot sweet gum balls out of the tree with it.

Not sure if you ever picked up a .22
I picked up one of these today for $215 at a gun show. Its a Heritage Rough Rider, Snake Eyes special edition. 6.5" barrel, six shot cylinders in both .22LR and .22WMR
Went to the range and slung hot lead for two hours. Nice little plinker. REALLY loud with .22 mag.
This is very similar to the Single Six Ruger, but not quite as well made I'm sure, but for $215, I am very satisfied with the gun.

That thing looks really sweet.
I'm going to a gun show here tomorrow. I hope to find a deal on a .22 there.

This was kind of an impulse buy. My 13 year old son loves it. I could hardly get it away from him so I could shoot it today.
As far as autos, did you know Kel Tec has a new 22WMR auto that holds 30 rounds and is in the $300 range? It is called the PMR 30 I believe.

I had both, screwed up and sold the single six, I much prefer it to the semi-auto.
I think I sold it because that's the one that would sell
