They had a pile of 7mm08 at lake Charles academy today. Along with many other calibers.

If anyone wants to send me some 7mm08 ammo so my 5 year old doesn’t have to blow his shoulder off with my 30-06 next season they would be great

That's easy! Start handloading. Buy a press, 1# of Hodgdon 4895 powder, 7-08 brass (or use brass from spent cartridges), large rifle primers, 120 grain bullets (Nosler Ballistic Tip, Sierra or Barnes TTSX are good choices) and some Lee Precision 7-08 dies and get to it. Oh wait.....powder and primers are still unobtainable. All joking aside, now's a good time to start preparing for next year and loading up some reduced recoil loads for your son. Things are beginning to ease up some w/ supplies, except for primers and powder. For example, this Lee hand press just now become available after being unavailable for 3-4 months. If you start buying now, you'll have the needed supplies before hunting season rolls around. The 7-08 is a great deer hunting, including reduced recoil loads. I've got a Remington bolt action 7-08 handgun whose full power loads are equivalent to reduced loads in a rifle.

ETA: The Hodgdon website has good load data for reduced recoil loads w/ H4895.
