Getting them the same color and font was the safe play. Now that they are on there, I think it pops.

the matching silver numbers look much better then those black ones
plus they are supposed to be reflective, so the black ones werent legal based on that rule

I always wondered that. Been checked a lot, no GW ever mentioned it.

Yep.
I’ve been looking. It’s currently the saw blades covered in grease on both sides from blowing bearings a few times through the years. The black is actually the spare and just happened to be on when I took the top picture.
That said, I like the black look better than chrome.

From LA website:

Number must be painted, applied as a decal, or otherwise affixed to both sides of the bow.
Number must read from left to right on both sides of the bow.
Number must be in at least three-inch-high, plain BLOCK letters.
Number's color must contrast with its background.
Letters must be separated from the numbers by a space or hyphen equal in length to a letter: LA 2791 GM or LA-2791-GM.
No other numbers may be displayed on either side of the bow.
Decals must be affixed on both sides of the vessel within six inches of the registration number.

We draped some burlap all over it and jabbed some bamboo and pines in the mud around us. Worked perfect.

ya they dont get to strict with it, there are also required to be 3" size but when i had 2 1/2" letters they just told me about it was wrong and never even gave me a warning ticket.
but like anything, if they having a bad day its never good to give them any reason to write you up
