I found where a mineral/salt block has been on a WMA.

I really want to hunt the area. Down hill drag bringing the deer back to the truck. Two bedding areas. Two food plots within 600 yards.
How far away from the lick should I hunt to avoid potential problems?

I would let the warden know and ask him. Can’t plead ignorance now

I have searched the Louisiana Hunting Regulations booklet, and can not find any information on how far you must be away from any baited spot while Deer hunting. For Turkey, hunting it says you must be 200 yards from any bait.

In 2014, they added a definition of baiting as any substance used to attract game via ingestion.

I’ve found out that it’s legal to hunt mineral blocks in Tennessee, as long as they aren’t the kind that contain food.... but I’m still wondering on the wma rules, could be different.

They only bitch about ATVs and dogs... but fine print is what I’m trying to find out! Like it’s illegal to remove plants, salt/mineral blocks kill plants so here I am.

I’d be more worried about a confrontation with whoever set the salt lick than with greenjeans

You’re missing a real good opportunity to plead ignorance

This. Definitely illegal on WMA’s or they would be all over.

I wouldn’t hunt the salt block, huge waste of time. That would be like hunting a feeder. Also salt blocks are more important in the summer when it’s hot not so much during hunting season.

If you like the area hunt the trail and find an intersection that the salt block is near. Just remember that if there’s a salt block someone else is likely hunting that spot too, do you really want to share a spot.

I did. What I was saying is I’d hunt the area without a care of the location of the salt block if no one was around. Except there will be someone around most likely, so now you don’t want to consider where the best spot to hunt deer is but the best spot to hunt with someone else around.

Also, while I know that you said you didn’t put the block there if you are hunting it then the warden isn’t going to care as you can’t prove you didn’t put it there. I’m not saying don’t do it, I’m just saying it really doesn’t matter who put it there if you Hunt close by.

I don’t think salt blocks really do anything during hunting season. Deer aren’t going to go to them during normal hunting periods with any sort of routine.

Cover up he block area with six bags of corn two of which are cracked corn, and that will eliminate the salt lick threat.
