You do sacrifice muzzle velocity and therefore range/energy when using a silencer.
Incorrect. Muzzle velocity speeds up with a can, also zero changes for most weapons.

Depending on what you are shooting... they make .22LR rounds with no powder... primer only. Very quiet, and good for shooting rats in the barn, etc.

Yes, you can buy a suppressor for certain .22's. Usually the manufactured ones run $200+ but you can have one made cheaper.
A subsonic round is needed to truly keep it quiet. You can find CCI sub-sonics most places - google it.
They are even legal if you follow the right steps. You have to fill out some paperwork and have the local sheriff's office sign it. Then you submit it to the ATF with a fee ($200 I think)...fairly easy. If you want more info I can point you in the right direction if needed.

aguila sniper subsonic .22 LR rounds....its basically a 60 grain head on a cb short body...you can order them online, i bought some at the last kenner gunshow....they make less pop than the regular subsonics by remington and CCI

It is legal to own silencers in most states. In SC, you can buy one legally for a .22 for about $600, plus the cost of obtaining a federal permit to own it, which I believe costs about $200. The gunsmith I know who is licensed to manufacture and sell them makes them for many calibers, including deer rifle calibers like .308. It does not make large calibers truly silent, but reduces it to a thud sound, that is not audible for very far. In most places they are legal to hunt with, as long as you are hunting in a legal method consistent with local game laws to begin with.

My father in law has one and on a bolt action .22 and it's so quiet you can hear the firing pin hit the brass. It will bring a smile to your face you can't wipe off.

Believe it or not they were added to the NFA regulations in 1934 because they were fearful that poachers would use them to harvest more game.

Depending on your barrel twist they may not be very accurate. Some people have problems with them keyholing.

I have a Ceiner conversion for my AR that I shoot these out of.

No first hand experience with the CMMG and I've had the Ceiner for about 10 years. Works great, it'll shoot all the .22 that don't shoot well in my 10/22. I don't like the skinny mags but black dog machinery makes mags that look correct.

Hmmm...I guess that's the ONE good thing about Alabama...Sound suppressors are LEGAL...but you do show up on the ATF's radar....gotta have a pricey license to buy/own one.
There's a guy in Athens or Decatur (can't remember which) that makes them for ARs.

i compared them out of the same rifle(an interarms pump.22) and its quite a bit difference in sound between the cci and the aguila. i only shot about 10 rounds each. ill have to look at the reviews you're looking at.

also, red jacket firearms(in baton rouge) make a good .22 suppresor for $489:
red jacket .22 suppressor
Model SS .22 Mag, about halfway down the page.
another tidbit if you want to get a .22 pistol to suppress...all(new ones atleast) walther P22's come threaded for a suppressor
