Hydro Turf, worth the money? How does it hold up?

Does anyone have it installed in their boat? I am wondering how well it holds up? The boat is used for duck hunting and freshwater and inshore fishing.

TIA

Worth every penny. Wouldn't have an aluminum boat without it.

We did a boat at our shop and had an extra piece. I put it on the pedal of our forklift 10 years ago and it still looks brand new. Impressed the hell out of me.

Covered the floor in my 18x42 tunnel and it slept outside for years. Never got hard, slick or tore and is probably still on the floor today. Be careful if you use the 3m version because you only get one chance to lay it down.

A lot of people say Sea Dek is much better, but I have no complaints with my HydroTurf. Just don't expect it not to fade some.

Have it in my current boat and had it in my last boat for 5 years. Won't have a boat without it. The 3m adhesive is worth the extra change

Put it in to replace the carpet in my '02 xpress a year and a half ago. Wish I had done it 10 years earlier. Looks as good today as the day it was installed.

Would not have another boat without it. Sea Dek should be better for 2-3x the price but I have no complaints about Hydroturf so far. Had it for about a year and a half in my mudboat and about 5-6 months in my little Ranger.

What kind of prep work do you have to do?

I wiped down my aluminum surfaces with acetone. Used the 3M backed sheets, but used 3M spray adhesive as well. Sprayed the adhesive on the boat, let it get tacky, then laid the turf. I couldn't pull it off if I tried now.

No sanding or buffing the paint off?

I did it when I built my boat, so it was on bare aluminum. I would think as long as the paint was adhered well, you could apply it over the top. It STICKS.

I’ll take some pictures tomorrow. I’ve had hydro turf on my duck/inshore boat for 4/5 years now. The front deck is starting to come apart. Now that’s probably because I hunt 40 days a year out of my boat in salty conditions. I’m also pulling a dog up all the time or she’s sitting up there jumping from the deck. It’s also sat outside for months at a time. I’ll reinstall the front deck after this year or the next.

It’s an absolute must for an aluminum boat. No hot bare feet and doesn’t get slick when mud is on it. I couldn’t imagine not having it on any aluminum boat I own in the future.

I did all the same prep work except I washed my boat with a good scrub brush the week before and let it dry completely in the shed first.

I tried to sand down that texture and it just melted the paint and texture material and made a complete mess.

I used 3m spray 3-4” around edges of each piece and tip-toed around to make sure I put 190#s of pressure on it to get a good bond.

I have been having it on my mudboat for about 5 years. When I bought the boat 10 years ago it had some on it but I didn't like the color, so I tried pulling it off. Ended up having to get a grinder with a buffing wheel to take it off. That was a pain in the fricking arse. Bought the new color with the 3m adhesive already on it and stuck it right on. Have had no problems with it at all and I am pretty rough on my boat.

One helpful tip if you ever need to remove. Oscillating tool with a putty knife style tip not a cutting tip. Works like a charm.

Thanks. I dreamed it up and made it on one of those Silhouette machines I bought for my wife. It's 1:1 scale.
