How long do you think you could last aboard a boat like the Deadliest Catch?

First off, I don't see how the frick they arent getting sick in 30 ft. seas. but anyways, the lack of sleep would do it for me. unless they are all on uppers there is no way I could work months at a time with 0-4 hours of sleep max per night, frick that

Would not surprise me.

If I did it for a season it better pay well enough to not have to work for 3 or 4 years. And I'm sure it doesn't.

I think most of them bastards are ex cons or have trouble holding onto jobs. Not many other ways they can secure ~60k legally. My thoughts at least.

I get sick in regular seas in the gulf so I would say as soon as we cleared the protected waters.

Wouldn't step on one. I like to think I'm not a pussy, but screw that.

They must take adderal.

No way I would make it on deck. I have heard them talking about getting the "claw" from constantly grabbing things. It sounds horrible. I have been leisurely fishing and thought this is miserable and I'm not getting soaked by 34 degree water.

I don't get sea sick so I could be a producer and sit up in the wheelhouse

Before the show was made I worked with a guy who had been a deckhand for 2 years. He never mentioned how bad it sucked just how great the money was. He was a little off but him not complaining about it makes me wonder if some of the lack of sleep stuff is over dramatized. Seems like most people would volunteer that type of info.

The low amounts of sleep and high seas wouldnt be as bad to me as the constant wet cold environment. I would last as long as it took for someone on another boat to bring me home bc im sure once you leave harbor that captain aint turning back for shite

The 60K is from one season. As I understand it, there are 4 seasons a year - King, Opelio, Cod, and King again. So even if you took the lowest amount of 30K, you are looking at at a 120K year if you go out all 4 trips.

But if you go out on all 4 seasons how much time do you spend on land? Probably still not that fmhreat of pay considering the amount of time you're actually at work.

Land for these guys is a steady string of collection agencies, exes, and parole officers. Going to sea is a stress buster
