How are the "new" Quadratrac winches?

Their numbers look good compared to the cheaper smitty, warn, and superwinch. Any one have any experience with them, the price seems great.

Never heard of them. I could live with trying for that price though. $400 for an 11klb winch is awesome. I think my 12Klb warn was close to $700.

I've never used one, but notice that the chart is comparing it to Warn's lowest model winch.

considering that they were just made available, I doubt you will get anyone that has used it. There was a write up on jeepforum.com about them. A quadratec rep was on there. Most were saying that they thought it was just a Smittybilt rebranded with a new logo, but rep assures that this is a totally different winch. for that price, might be worth the try.

yea im really thinking about pull the trigger on one for my CJ.
would 9K be plenty to pull my CJ or another jeep out? what about a fullsize truck, or would i need to go with the 11k

9k is plenty for a jeep. i use'd a 8 on my fullsize chevy with no problems. keep a snatchblock handy and your set.

Mine is pretty old. Mid 90's.

I think what that table is missing is what the internal and exterior parts are made of and where they are sourced from. Plastic housings normally break, you wouldnt want a cheap motor, and need the right diameter power cables to supply the winch so they wont get hot. A burnt up winch is no good and happens more often than you think. They can get so hot that you cant even touch the housing.
For the winch line, 5/16 and 3/8 arent that much of a difference. Synthetic line is stronger and lighter. Put a cover on the line and it will last long enough. The hook on the end might not be rated correctly, or even be a junky Chinese piece.
You also have to look at how the inside of the winch is sealed from the elements. Not being sealed, one dip in the water and you have a 70lb piece of junk.
I have seen and heard of many people cheaping out on winches and the vast majority regret it within a year.

Mine was the top of the line warn in 95. It has never malfunctioned in any way (knock on wood). It gets used 3 or 4 times a year for various things. Never used it to pull myself out but its badass for pulling trees down.
I see jeeps with the cables wrapped around the bumper pretty regularly. Winches crapping out seems to be pretty common.

I don't know if I would trust a "new" winch. I rarely need mine, but when you do, it's a lifesaver. I'd rather KNOW that my winch will work when I need it.

This is usually done when you use or expect ot use the winch multiple times on a trip - saves time over fully winding the cable back on the winch. Ive done 20+ pulls in a day many times and its a huge time saver + it saves the winch/batteries some.
Not saying thats the reason for all of the ones you see (especially if they are parked at the mall like that) but it is A reason.

Its always on the road and in parking lots. Didnt think bout that

And to the OP - I would buy a name brand winch for a truck. I have anly used Warn personally. I have skimped on 4 wheeler winches before and had ot replace them - the Warns I replaced them with are still going strong. I have a 2000lb off brand unopened in my garage right now.

warns are just so damn expensive.... i see a used 9.5ti for 800. that is just dont want to spend that.

get the old school M series. You can get a M8000 for like $500 on Ebay.
The only thing I have ever had go wrong with a warn was one that was on a jeep that sat unused for a few years..... the winch had a solenoid freeze up. $10 and 2 minutes (2 nuts to replace) later its working as good as new. - that one was a M8000 - still using it today.

most likely a "look at me" thing then

If its going on a jeep get a Warn M8000. GeauxTurbo on here has one on his TJ and has pulled 100's of jeeps and trucks over rocks, and out of mud holes and never missed a beat. His has to be over 10 years old and still going strong.
I have to say I have seen so many non-Warn/Superwinch winches fail on the trails its not funny and its a real pain in the arse.
I have an 8274 because line speed is the most important to me, but an upright is not for everyone.

A Warn 9.5ti on a CJ is like racing stripes on a Pinto. Don't do that to a classic.

Have you ever thought about running twin 8274s? It is called gigglepin and they are fast as all hell. They use them in racing alot across the pond.
