The Honey Island Shooting Range, located on the Pearl River Wildlife Management Area (WMA), will be closed beginning June 11, 2021, for renovation and infrastructure improvement, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. The work is expected to be completed in July.
The renovation work is part of a statewide LDWF shooting range improvement initiative. This construction will result in enhanced user and range safety features.

Fix the roads first

Couldn’t even drive down oil well road last season in a vehicle.

Priorities first

Get a bigger truck.

I like the shitty roads as a barrier to entry.

Oil well road was shut down last year to poor quality.

Bigger truck does not apply. There are also limits to tire size out there.

yes...oil well has been shut down... a lot...

but the range is on poor boy road.

Oil well is already getting major improvements... too many rock trucks to count have gone down that road for 2 weeks now fixing it.

range improvements include enlarging customer parking lot and a bed of limestone...adding limestone parking along the sides of the road as overflow parking on busy days.

wings will be added to the berms on pistol(10-15yds) and rifle(50yds) "think U shape" and pushed back up

and the the woods to the left of Clays are being pushed back some as overgrowth has been encroaching on it for quite some time.

Be thankful the "blue sky initiative" has been scrapped...(shutters hanging down to a point that shooter cannot see blue sky to prevent high shots/shots not impacting the berm)

That’s good news. I haven’t been out since end of hunting season.

Glad oil well toad is being repaired. Poboy road was always fine since the shooting range is on it.

Are they screwing up Honey Island like they did Sherburne??? Cause that is exactly what they said they were doing at Sherburne when they put up those death slats that make all the sound come back on the shooter and prevent you from shooting from a standing position.

Made shooting machine guns out there just not enjoyable... pretty sure they eventually banned machine guns from the range but everyone I know that brought machine guns out there stopped going once they messed it up. First trip out there after the "improvements" we had 50 cal machine gun to shoot... that crap was loud.

The amount of visitors annually to the range far exceeds the number of other PRWMA visitors.

LDWF gets federal (pittman robinson) monies based on the number of visitors...it would stand to reason that they would take care of a major revenue source.

I do but use a different strategy.

I went to single shot rifles and single action revolvers.

That really slows consumption down.
