I bought one last year, and the salesman explained it to me like this:
-AR style rifles are considered 2.5 guns in a safe
-Pump and automatic shotguns are considered 1 gun
-Rifle with a scope is 1.5 guns
-O/U shotguns are considered 1.5 or 2 guns

This at a minimum then add a few spaces because some slots just won't work. Examples, shotgun barrels don't fit under a shelf or a large rifle scope hits wall before barrel hits support. Bolts stick into next slot. Scopes, magazines and AR handles occupie the spaces in front of or behind them. I have some guns that can't go on front row because of door interference.

I got a 24 gun safe recently. Put a couple small motion LED lights (rechargeable) and a dehumidifier. Soon to get some rifle rods. Room is already very tight with the long guns so I should have gotten a 224 gun safe just for room sake.

But I have many more pistols than long guns so I'll rearrange sometime soon

Get the biggest one you can afford. I bought one small one and filled it. Moved to another house and bought a larger one....filled that too. I think the next one I get will be a gun safe but not to store guns but files and possessions.

LED light is great, and an outlet inside the safe for putting a watch winder.

I just had to pull out all of the shelves and all to make more room in mine. I bought a new safe about a year ago, then preceded to go and buy more guns until the new one became just as crowded as the old one.

For documents, I have a small safe about 18”x12”x8” for documents that I keep inside my gun safe. Also have another for guitars but I’ve learned that gun safes aren’t great for guitars.

I have a 60 gun and it's not enough if using half for ammo. I can barely fit 9 long guns and 7 shotguns.

Wanted to bump this and ask if a dehumidifier for a safe that's inside, really needed here in LA?

Ive never had one and never had any issues. As long as the temperature in your home is relatively stable, it will be inside the safe as well. They aren't air tight unless heated up enough to swell the gaskets.

dehumidifier

Unless you keep your safe in a non conditioned space why would you need this option?

Buy the biggest safe you can afford. It fills up quickly. Not just guns require real estate….you start putting all kinda crap in there

Silicon gun socks. Was really sold on these after seeing some guns taken out of a safe that had been in a home fire. The safe was in the basement and water from the fire hoses creeped into the safe and it was about 24 hours before the safe was opened. The guns in socks looked perfect the ones without had some pretty substantial surface rust. Also help protect from bumping against each other. Cheap investment for what they provide.

Rifle rods

Handgun rack that hangs on door. I have one that holds 10. Most of my 1911’s go here.

I have a colonial 50 liberty. Able to keep 60 guns in it along with mags and accessories.

If i considered myself a safe expert, then I wouldn't have asked the question.... and would be able to bypass smart-arse phucking comments.

we just purchased a home that has an office. I was thinking about a safe for my guns that have not been lost in boating accidents.

But then I got to thinking,

What about a gun cabinet with a fingerprint lock? One that I could wall mount my weapons instead of standing them up? Or just traditional

Anyone have experience with a safe like this? I have three kids under 5

I remember the days of a family having a nice solidwood gun cabinet that a father would gift to one of his kids at some point. Then the world happens and MTHFKRS just want to steal what they want, as opposed to working and buying their own.

Sorry about the RANT but I dig your idea.

hat fire pocket for documents is indeed waterproof, until the top flap goes under. When your safe floods, it fills with water then holds the water until you come back and empty it.

Huge difference between documents getting wet and documents under water for 3 days.

Put your most important documents (Birth Certificates, Deeds, Passports, etc.) in one of these....in your safe MagPul Daka Waterproof Pouch

I live in a pretty safe area....for now....but I'd like to think my locks and alarms would deter an intrusion while we arent home.....if I am home....they will meet their maker.
