I had my first son this weekend and I’d like to get a very nice 1911 to pass down to him on his 18th birthday.

Looking to spend $3000-$5000 and would like a custom gun if possible. Any ideas on where to start?

Find an older series 70 Colt and send to Nighthawk for their Colt Hawk package. Here is my 1948 mil spec customization with that package. Package is 2600.00 plus cost of your gun. My son will be getting mine one day.
I found the gun through a guy in Bayou Shooter. Basically have $900 in the gun. I traded him an Sig M17 with some extras. You can buy a Colt mil spec 70 series new for $900. I preferred an older one. The 1948 gun was significant to me because it was the year my dad was born.

Bayoushooter is a great place to start. But don't but a "high end" 1911 because it has a high end price. Kimber has a high end price on several 1911s but they would be my in my top 3 or top 5.

I appreciate your justification for buying yourself a new gun

If I was going to drop that kind of coin on a 1911 it would be Ed Brown no questions asked

Volkmann Precision. They start around $4500 for base models and go up from there. Call Luke and talk to him. Very good chance that he picks up the phone if you call.

does your daughter like guns? if not, you might as well give it directly to the son-in-law.

I’d get the boy a Colt Series 70 and forego all the ghetto pimped outness.

First one is a thing of classic beauty.
Second one looks good, but I think the fish scale serrations are trendy and going to date the pistol to the 2010-2020's.

Just my opinion.

That’s a great idea. Waiting on my boy to make his appearance now. Maybe I’ll get two blued pythons, one for him and one for me!

I’d like a pimped out cartel boss 1911. Who makes those?

I have a Nighthawk and I love it. I met the gunsmith that made it and reworked it.

I would suggest talking with them as well.

Get a Cabot meteorite 1911. Made out of metal from a meteor that crashed into earth. I believe you can get a matching pair for 4.5 million.
