Have squirrels in attic, what time do they leave nest?

I’ve hunted squirrels plenty but never paid attention to exactly what time they wake up and leave the nest and then return? I had about an 18 inch end piece of gutter on my 2nd story break off about a month ago and they go in behind it. That’s where we hear them at night I have a visual confirmation from the attic it’s squirrels, so I’m going to wait out there this evening with a beer and my air gun. Do they go home right at dark? I don’t mind waiting but prefer not to spend 2 hours if unnecessary? Gonna do the same tomorrow morning with some coffee. Is it dusk and dawn pretty much?
Also have some live traps I’m setting up and will fix the hole/ gutter tomorrow.
Any other tips?

Soak rags in apple cider vinegar and hang them around the attic. Squirrels hate the smell.
Get a sonic device. Those things emit a 130-decibel noise at a very high frequency. Squirrels can hear it. Dogs and humans can't (Might not be an option if you have cats.)
Get a trap. Release them in the woods.

I caught the ones going in my attic using a couple rat traps and peanut butter. I placed the traps outside in the area where they were climbing up from the ground to enter the attic gable vent. I secured the trap in place using some wire so they couldn't drag off the trap. The trap want kill them but they will be there if you want to shoot them with a pellet gun or relocate.

I have a single shite crack barrel spring loaded that is great for squirrels.
Simplest option is to fix it during the day when they are out. Use a shop vac to suck out all the best material, seal up the hole, no more squirrels.

Get a Gamo

I have a Gamo Varmint. Had to giggle it. Came with a scope pre mounted and surprisingly well-sighted in.
If you really want to make it sporty, get a co2 pellet pistol and flashlight and climb up there at night. Gets the blood pumping.

Benjamin Pump .177 caliber will take care of them in short order. I've used mine to kill more pigeons than I can count and a few possums that were getting very familiar with my house.

I have my Benjamin pump from when I was 5, 30 years old and works great.
I already got up in the attic and saw what looked like a juvenile, it was in my eves and not in an easy spot to get to so I didn’t want to shoot it at the time. Plus I thought they were rats so I was happy to find the squirrel. I’m not worried about getting them, I’ll shoot them and have the live traps to catch them then shoot them. I just wasn’t sure what the best time of day to sit outside their nest and wait for them was?
Eta: I set 2 rat traps with peanut butter in my attic already. Tied them down, not going amateur hour and digging through my insulation to find them I’ve done that with rats before and that sucks. I have 8 traps I was gonna set for rats but since it’s squirrels I’m gonna try to catch them outside my house.

I'm assuming you have central a/c and most of your ductwork is up in the attic. If so, is it the flex-duct or actual sheetmetal pipes wrapped with insulation?
If that flimsy flex-duct, squirrels and rats have been known to chew through that stuff and you wind up A/C'ing your attic.
Get them out ASAP is my advice. You can set the traps where it is easier to access instead of heading out to the eaves to do it. Then once gone, find out where they are getting in and close that off-----and it don't take much of a hole for them to get in either.

Yep, thanks for the reminder. I don’t think they have gotten there but I’ll def double check. I looked around and didn’t see any tunnels through the insulation or crap or anything else from them being all over.
Where we hear them is right above my daughters bed and that’s also where the hole in the eaves is located. That’s where I saw it also. So I’m pretty sure they are mainly staying there. My wife sings to my daughter at night and hears them so she is freaking out and threatening to call someone if they aren’t gone by Monday, so once I’m nice and sauced up after the Auburn game it’ll be game on with the Benjamin and then tomorrow I’ll be on the ladder fixing the gutter and hole and full Rambo mode all day.

Make sure u take care of the mama before u fill the hole she’s coming in. She will absolutely destroy your shite trying to get back in to her babies.

I guess my brain took a wrong turn... just read about his wife singing to his daughter, then you start taking care of mama... thought I was on the OT

My UCF buddy came over and watched football last night and brought his suppressed .22 rifle with CCI quiets and we got 3 adults. Not sure how we flushed them, but in between watching football and beers we had another sober friend screw the board back to fix the hole. Today I walked outside and heard something in my gutter, so I went on my roof with a blower and blew a wad of pine needles off and sure enough I blew what I thought looked like a squirrel off my 2nd story roof also.
First off, mad my Pumpmaster 760 (thought it was a Benjamin earlier my bad) that I’ve had since I was 5 bit the dust. I took like 3 practice shots to check the sites and bring back memories and on the 4th it started leaking air. Sad day, RIP.
I live in a neighborhood so I didn’t bring a BB gun up on my roof as I didn’t want someone thinking some crazy dude had an AR on his roof shooting at something. But of course there’s also a baby squirrel left in my gutter that I can see just hanging out.
So I get down off the roof and grab my back up BB gun and go inspect this huge wad of pine needles and sure enough a dang juvi squirrel runs out and along my house. I follow it and it goes around the corner, then I turn the corner and the damn thing is now in my garage. Rookie mistake leaving the door open.
I end up finding it in a huge pile of rags I have, I lifted up one rag and see a tail. So I took a shovel to the pile and knocked it out apparently then finished it off with the BB gun. Huge relief, as I have some holes in my garage drywall from renovation work and the last thing I wanted is this thing in the guts of my garage.
Then I get on my extension ladder and the sibling is back out on top of my gutter. Long story but I end up finishing it off also.
So 5 squirrels down, holes sealed up, and no new noises so far in my ceilings. Hopefully problem over.
