Has the military ruined "the outdoors" for anyone else?

After my stint in the Army my desire to be in the woods declined drastically. It's a strange phenomenon that I can't explain. I have no desire to be infested with chiggers, sleep in freezing cold weather, be woken up by strange noises, trek around the woods for hours trying to find my way out. DAMN YOU TO HELL ARMY

I don't experience these things when I go out into the woods, but thanks for your service.

My time in the military only made me appreciate my time in the outdoors that much more. Especially missing half of 2 hunting seasons.

I don't get lost.....

The semi-local Guard air operations buzzing my tree lines with spotlights at last shooting light has ruined a few afternoons for me.

I like to shoot, but I always liked that. I don't like to hunt anymore. Killed an 8point right after I got out and was thinking "Thats it?"
Used to get buck fever so bad I couldn't squeeze a trigger.

No, and I have a bunch of nice camping gear from all of the extra TA-50 I've collected.

From my experience, people that spend the most time in the woods wouldn't have it any other way

Does anyone enjoy these things? I love the outdoors, hunting , hiking, backpack trips, etc. But I'm also a damn 21st Century American and enjoy some modern amenities. I don't mind taking a crap in the woods for a couple of days and a bathing with a pot of hot water and wash cloth, but there's nothing better than the first hot SSS when back to civilization.

just finished a book about the battle(s) of chosin reservoir and one soldiers comments about getting a hot shower for the first time in weeks on board a navy ship after the retreat.... was a poignant point in the book...... I could relate to a week or so... but weeks... and those cats were dealing with some of the most brutal temps ever seen on a battle field.

Know how I know you weren't a Marine? Marines never get out. They never say they "Were" a Marine.

Didn’t have that effect on me. Actually the opposite. When I was in the woods with the Army, I was wishing I was in the woods doing my own thing.

While it is true that Once a Marine, Always a Marine is gospel calling a Devildog out for not being one is grounds for a Sonic knuckle check if he is in fact a Devil.
