Heading to BSL this weekend hoping the rain stays away Saturday. I see where some decent trout are being caught between cat island and Washington st pier. I haven’t fished there much this early but was thinking the pier, bayou caddy rocks, and the 2 reefs out there. Are there any other general direction we should try this early? Last year we did decent with reds and a few decent specks at half moon at the end of May. I haven’t learned cat island much and only fished around it briefly. TIA

Update- shite weather and only fished 3 hours but we kept 10 16-18 trout on Taylor’s reef and a nice red by the pier. Other guys were also catching at the reef next to where we were fishing.

I’ve never fished cat island in my life so I won’t be able to tell you much. I have buddies who fish it and it’s where I’d go in MS to look for a big trout but I’m not sure if that’s saying much. You make your way over to Louisiana and I can be of more help!

Thanks- i found a couple of holes back in the La side of the Biloxi marsh in July last year that were great around lake brain and nine mile. A friend suggested the platforms in Lake Borgne as an option but hasn’t fished them in years.

Do you have a boat? If so, anything along that eastern side of Biloxi Marsh should be good right now. Find flats around some of the deeper cut throughs.

Thanks- i do have a boat. Light south wind saturday so I’ll head that way early. Forecast looks like evening thunderstorms. I’ll have the family with me so I’ll be a little more cautious with my timing

Right now "flat boat" should be prime. If you are in the area it would likely be worth a stop to see if not too crowded.

Wade fishing back side of Cat with bone colored top water is dynamite this time of year.

I watched some guys on Youtube earlier this week wading out there. I may have to postpone that one until when it’s just mee and the son or some friends. Definitely on my list

I can assure you this is accurate right now. It will be crowded on a weekend though.

I went to run my boat after working on it the other day and made a few short stops before the weather - there's plenty trout on dang near every reef/structure you can find.

Cat can be real hit or miss, but when it's good, it's real good.

Appreciate it. I’ll bounce around some between the marsh flatboat and stuff closer in and report back. My daughters favorite place is jailhouse reef since her last trip we caught hundreds of white trout and a few decent specks. She assumes that’s just the way it is.

I do know the trout are still close in and around near shore reefs. No need to go far if looking for trout

Thanks. I think I’ve convinced the family that we need to fish Saturday and Sunday. If the forecast hold as is for Saturday we’ll probably stay close and hit piers and reefs then Sunday stretch it out. At the minimum my son and I will fish Sunday and head back Monday. I’ll put a reminder in my phone to update how we did.

Fatality in boating accident here last weekend, make sure everything is in order, I would expect a high presence of patrolling. Accident was in the Jordan River not far north of I-10 but I wouldn’t more safety checks than normal. Good luck, bring some Gnat gear just in case

Damn that’s terrible. We went to the sandbar up the jourdan last year and people were flyin through some of those tight turns coming well past center. The jet skis had zero self awareness. I appreciate the heads up.

We caught 2 dozen or so last week but only 5 were keepers, one barely legal, 4 2-3 pounds. Water was muddy and a few degrees too cold. Go to flat boat etc early early

Did they ever report any specifics on how the wreck happened? I know the fountain mowed over the blue wave but what exactly caused it? We were in the bay when it happened. My buddy was in route to meet us and stopped at the wreck 3 minutes after it happened. He said he spoke with the girl who eventually passed away and he didn't think she was that bad off.

That bend of the river is somewhat blind to begin with plus you have the boats coming out of Diamondhead that feed in. It was high tide and both boats had T tops though so you'd think they would have been visible above the marsh. I always take that turn very easy until I can see what's coming from every direction.

It is frustrating that aside from minimal info right after the accident, you rarely hear anything else about them. Two boating fatalities in Ocean Springs in the last few months from collisions with stationary objects. News articles say that DMR is investigating and then you never hear anything else. Give us some root causes, safetly alterts, etc.
