I decided to hunt public for my first time this season and was pretty anxious about it due to the negative stereotypes about it. I now consider it one of the greatest choices I’ve made

No to rain on your parade man but it’s gonna happen. It’s not like every public hunt is gonna be bad. 95% of the time it’s cool in my opinion. But when you have that bad experience it will change everything.

And a pro tip for everyone regarding all of those “friendly” public land guys. Not saying all of them, but most of them ain’t your friend. They’re looking for info. Best believe they are memorizing every detail you give them. Coming from someone with over 30 years on public. You can make friends but careful what you say

I’ve been hunting public land my whole life and have very very few bad counters. Most of the time it’s more along the lines of idiots being lazy and illegally parking next to a good spot or walking around when they shouldn’t be right next to you. Like they see you at 7:30am from 100 yards away and continue to just walk right by. Nothing against the rules but just straight dick move. I’ve had guys drive down old closed roads and park right next to roosted turkeys multiple times.

But honestly the worst “public” experiences I’ve had is fishing, especially in the gulf of America. On a spot and some jack wagon thinks he owns it.

Worst public land experiences IMO have to come from duck hunting down here. From what I can tell it doesn’t get any better up North in Arkansas either. It’s all fun and games when you’re a college kid with nothing to lose. You have to be smarter as you get older and have more to protect, but there are still a lot of people who have a nothing to lose attitude out in the public marshes, plus the high school/college tik tok crowd.

Thankfully I've never hunted public land and can only imagine the BS some of yall have to deal with, this probably tame compared to most.

It's not that bad, the worst part is just seeing the litter that idiots leave in the woods. Most of the time I don't cross paths with anyone, and when I have they are usually pretty cool to talk to. One exception in 7 years was a couple of younger dudes who thought target practice with a .22 was a good idea during deer season (it's not allowed ever, but they were just a problem that day).
