Appreciate all the responses.

I’ve found something I’m looking for on there at a pretty reasonable price too. It is used.

The dealer is an A+ and I sent a message to ask about it.

It is a “bidding” situation though.

A+(85)

Assuming the 85 stands for how many sales.

Has all A or A+ reviews with one C, but he apparently responded to the C rating and claimed the buyer was doing something illegal.

Responded quickly to my message today.

If he's been on gunbroker since before 2020, I wouldn't have any concerns at all.

Gunbroker is a lot like ebay, in that it opens up basically a pawn shop type of sale to nationwide (with a large buyer population). It just isn't worth it to repeat sellers (ie shops) to try to screw someone over, as it severely limits your future market options. If you lose your account over something fishy (a scam), I don't think you can get another one.

I don't know about the ammo sales, but gun sales I would trust.

I'd say so.

Remember, the concept is that you can list a specific used gun to the entire country. You might live in SW Kansas and have a limited chance to sell something locally, but via Gunbroker you get the high bidder from everywhere. Someone might want that gun in a market where the price is not bad, relative to what he sees his local shops charge.

Also remember, the 'ebay' concept. Some guys wait until the last day to make bids. Some wait until the last minute (it pushes the time back 15 minutes to allow for a counter). Decide what it's worth to you at max price. Don't chase it, there will always be more.

Agreed.

I actually haven’t put in a bid yet. Just watching for now.

I used it this year for my keltec sub 2000. Came in at 130$ above retail. Then I had to pay the 200 tax total for the suppressed barrel.

What do you mean with using PayPal? I’m looking at buying a gun but it’s not a business. He has an A+ rating and been a member since 2012. Is there an issue with using PayPal friends/family?

I bought a Remington 870 (old silver spoon) on GB this year and and FFL and I were both really impressed with the quality and price. Like others said just be patient and bid numbers that are reasonable and you should get a good gun at a fair price.

A couple tips I've found that helps, with gunbroker-

1) watch manner of payment, and price to ship. Some folks take credit card (easiest way and you have good fraud protection just in case), some add 2-3% to the price for that, some will only take a money order. Some will ship for cheap, some want $40 or so. It will be posted in the listing.

2) there's a 'find your FFL' option for shipping, you can choose a drop-down and pick someone close to you. You can look at this, and when you win, there is an option during checkout.
**DON'T sit back and rely on this, as their list isn't always updated; and all it does is send an email to the recieving FFL you choose. They may be busy and not see it, and it won't ship until the FFL license is sent to the seller.
Find an FFL near you to receive, beforehand. Contact them, let them know you are looking at something, confirm they will do it. This puts your deal on thier radar.
Get their contact ph # and email, and when you win, send them a copy of the winning notice (Item #, description etc, seller's address).
When I win something, I send a group message with both the seller info and the FFL info, to both the seller and the FFL.
"I am the winner of ____, this is my contact info, the seller is ____ and this is their info, the receiving FFL is ____ and this is their info. Please contact me if there are any concerns. Thank you"
Remember, the only thing the FFL gets is a fee for transfer, and they're probably slammed like everyone else right now. Planting that bug in their ear will help, and if it's a store, buying something (anything) from them will also be a decent thing to do. Might get you better treatment.

Look at the gun when it arrives, don't just take it and go. I've never had a problem with a gunbroker deal, but once with Classic Arms I did, a cracked slide on a Star BM. I have stuff shipped to my local range (I'm a member and they know me), and the guy at the counter looked at it with me. HE spotted it and said 'oh shite, what's that". I called Classic from the range, they said 'whoops, don't "accept" it, send it back', and I ended up with a nice replacement pistol in less than a week.
Again, making nice with the FFL receiver helps the process.

Communication is key with this. Confirm with seller you are the high bid and what do you need to do; try to get some shipping confirmation tracking when it ships, leave good feedback when you get it (and let him know via email when you get it). Feedback for gunbroker is both 'I got it in described condition' and 'the sales process was good'; if the guy keeps you informed and ships fast (or lets you know of any delay etc), give him props. Helps him out with the next listing, lets others know he's ok to buy from, etc.

Finally, there are a lot of individual sellers on gunbroker, and a lot of stores using it as store-fronts. They get a lot of traffic, so plenty of small shops use it instead of setting up their own website for sales. They're just as reputable as, say, Palmetto State Armory etc, it's just a more convenient way to deal with selling stuff.
If you find a deal you like at a 'store' there, save them for future searches. King's Firearms sells cheap guns (like an online pawn shop), Lock Stock & Barrel sells nice guns, Roberton's Trading Post sells tons of parts etc.

Good Luck!

NO, DON'T DO THIS!

If Paypal catches on that it's a gun purchase (as stated), they will cancel your account. Not the transaction, the actual account.
quote:

You may not use the PayPal service for activities that:

violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation.
relate to transactions involving (a) narcotics, steroids, certain controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety, (b) drug paraphernalia, (c) cigarettes, (d) items that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity, (e) stolen goods including digital and virtual goods, (f) the promotion of hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory or the financial exploitation of a crime, (g) items that are considered obscene, (h) items that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction, (i) certain sexually oriented materials or services, (j) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or (k) certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law.

So not just firearms, but ammo, "certain accessories" (?), and certain knives (I suspect Microtech and other automatic knives).

Paypal has a 'Community' tab, where people can post questions and such. This was copy/pasted from there

What firearms parts are prohibited?
I have been selling gun parts using paypal for 15 years. Today my account was limited for violation of the user agreement.

I am now barred from paypal for life, and my funds are being held for 180 days. There is no recourse for me.

I have always been careful to not use paypal for the purchase or sale of firearms and ammunition.

The open-ended policy against "certain firearm parts and accessories", must be my violation.

What exactly are these "certain parts and accessories", if it were made clear I could have avoided this mess.

For those of you who are curious, I do trigger jobs, and sell picatinny rails.
