I load mine before heading to the stand and unload before I bring into the house. If I was in a camp I would never bring a loaded gun inside. The only guns I keep loaded in my house are for defense and put away from the kids.
I had something happen to me at a buddys house. He had a 10/22 ruger that had a trigger job and wanted me to feel it. I picked it up and checked it and it was loaded. I removed the clip and ejected the one out of the barrel. I had the clip and a loose bullet in my had. I pointed the gun to the wall and pulled the trigger. The gun went off and shot his wall in his office. After that I don't frick around with loaded guns in the house.

No rounds in the gun until you are in the stand. Breach open at all times when the gun is not loaded. The camp we grew up hunting at was owned by a family member who used it to take customers out. They weren't even allowed to have guns inside. Guns stayed in a room in the shed. It's still taken pretty seriously, there are signs all over the camp with the rules. I just don't see a reason to have a gun loaded, even just the magazine. Doesn't take long to put a few in once you're in the stand.

We have a small club.
We don't have any rules, we just respect each other. We keep our guns loaded and our glasses full.

All you people that don't load your chamber until you are in the stand, how many of you ever kill a damn deer? The noise you make will scare every deer away for a mile! Don't you know how to handle a loaded gun? That's what they make rifle straps for to free you hands to climb the damn ladder!
Killed lotsa damn deer. At least two 8 pts or better for the last 12+ years or so. Been working for me.

My brother was just puting a new Timney trigger in his 270 WSM the other day and had a round in the barrel that he didnt know about. Loosened off one of the screws to take the old trigger out and POW
No excuse for this.

My only question is
why?

I hunt mostly with my .270 7400 or my Marlin .444 lever actin. I'll chamber a round once I make it out of the camp yard. I walk to my stands so I might jump something up. If climbing a ladder I unload it for the climb. If I'm in a box it goes up with me on my back, but my climber it is brought up by a rope. I'm scared a squatch is gonna get me when I'm walking.

I had one of them frickers charge me before. Luckily I had one chambered and fired a warning shot at it's feet and he ran off. If I hadn't had it loaded I may not be here typing this today.

You're a stupid sonuvabitch.
You shoot squatches to kill. You must have bitch squatches at your place. Swamp squatch woulda kept on coming and got ya.
I fired a warning shot at swamp squatch once. I wasn't born this ugly.

If you are in a camp with kids, yes you unload your weapon at the camp. When I leave the camp I chamber one in when it gets dark or I return to camp I take it out. I think the whole don't load your weapon till your in the stand is pretty stupid myself.

In what way?
You do realize guns go off without ever touching the trigger sometimes?

It was just a juvenile squatch. I wanted him to grow to maturity first, I don't think he knew what he was doing. You know how teenagers are, too big for their britches.

You must be on SMAP like we are

Then don't point it at something you don't intend to shoot. The only reason I would keep a weapon unloaded is children in the vicinity. Proper handling of a weapon is all the safety I need. If you need to unload your weapon to not accidentally shoot someone, I don't want to hunt with you. JMO.

Isn't this what the liberal media tells us to be afraid of?
Posted on 1/1/13 at 7:05 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
Yes, only been a few years now but we are seeing results already.

I'm different than most I carried a loaded weapon in my recon platoon for 31 months total 3 tours in the Middle East. Never had an accidental discharge. Add those days up and most people won't hunt that many days in their lifetime. Advise me on why I should unload my weapon to get in the the stand.
