I picked up this Liberty safe from a friend and was going to see if I could get it cleaned up. Any suggestions on removing, what I think, is surface rust and some spilled chemicals??
Edit: I feel stupid for having trouble hosting the pics...

If it's not much trouble to move I would for sure move it outside of your home.

You have to get that rust off, (I'd wire wheel it, sand, prime and paint. I used some Rust-Oleum Hammered Finish Spray Paint on a base for my mailbox a few years ago and it still looks great.

There are paints that can be used over rust and look great. I'd throw a couple coats on and call it a day. That wasn't a safe with a high finish to begin with.

This is what I'd do. Sand off the loose flakey stuff, use paint over rust primer and then paint it whatever color you want.

Spray it down with Kroil and let it sit for a day. Then it’s elbow grease with some fine steel wool. Sand it with some fine sandpaper then repaint it.

Apply Evaporust, apply a rust preventing top coat, hit it with the spatter paint.

thanks guys.. Yeah, I'll move it back out, hopefully without destroying any walls this time, and get to work on it after Christmas.

$10 furniture dolly and a couple ratchet straps will move that thing around the house with no issue whatsoever.

Just tell them the FBI is asking what’s under that paint and they’ll come sand it for you
