Yep. Look at defcad, Defense distributed, cryptocurrencies (bitcoin), etc. It is no longer a question of whether or not the government will let us have xyz... the question is, How are they going to stop us?

I'll let you in on a secret: They can't.

So you're nominating Stewie to be TD's official envoy for ending inner city "gun violence" in Chicago?

because I didn't buy stock in any gun/ammo manufacturers before Obama was elected. Granted I was broke because wife was in med school and I'd just started a new job...

I don't see someone like you buying stock in a firearms company... Just saying.

Your point, the explosion in Texas was an industrial accident...

As far as making bombs out of fertilizer, to buy that amount, you have to have a license regulated by the Department of Ag in each state and supervised (oversight) by Homeland security. And you have to have the proper Ag business license to buy certain fertilizers.

Additionally, sales from farmer to farmer in that amount are illegal.

You don' thave to do any of those things to buy a gun...

I don't blame the firearms companies and wouldn't have a problem buying stock in it at all.

I mean dude is just trolling. He really doesnt care about inner city violence but he wants us to care and moreover severely limit the capacity to which we can defend ourselves. None of us is a mass shooter, none of us targets civilians in our free time. We all have jobs, most of us are highly educated and generally non violent towards our neighboors. But this smuck, comes in with lies and filtered statistics because hes bored needs something to do and is slightly sadomaschistic. If he really wanted to help he would be working in some violence prevention program not trying to poke a bunch of red necks with sticks on the internet.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. I just thought it would be funny if he were to go door-to-door in the projects "heppin" folks and collecting pistols.

What would you suggest be done after the Boston bombing? Ban backpacks from holding pressure cookers?

As you said...you can't stop evil...you can't stop violence.
That being said, how would a reduction of legislation stop it?
Under this logic, if you can't stop all of it, you might as well not try and stop it?

Just like Hypnos said, there are millions upon millions of gun owners that have never hurt anyone. We are not responsible for any of the mass killings in the past.

You can buy smaller amounts at multiple locations.

Yes...the reference to a John Oliver bit on the Daily Show about reduction in gun voilence after sweeping regulations is a major troll.
I think most of the reaction to my statements shows how over sensitive gun advocates are right now.

I went to the same website (as cited by another poster) and brought in differ stats about gun violence

That's supposed to be tracked by Homeland Security...I know we have been audited and questioned before (for many purchases during fertilizing season) by Homeland security.

I'm not sayint that's fool proof...I'm saying that at least there are checks and oversight...unlike guns.

When our rights are the closest they have ever come from being taken away, I will do my absolute best to make sure the RIGHT facts get out there instead of the BS statistics the president so ardently defends. We're simply defending our rights, and right now is currently a firestorm for gun rights.

DrTyger - I'm not advocating sweeping gun control.

What I want is;

(1) some means of holding those selling weapons to convicted felons/criminals accountable.
(2) educate people about firearms to build a culture of respect and understanding (and safe protection/storage)

How we get there...I don't know.

Everyone knows that the key to gun control is regulation of ammo. If ammo is taxed at an additional $50 a box and sold only to NRA members, there will be fewer bullets on the street.

But whether gun laws stop gun violence isn't really a good issue.

Drug laws don't eliminate drugs.

Laws against theft don't stop theft.

How many background checks does it take for a background check to predict the future?

None of the suggested extra "checks" would have done anything to stop any of the past shootings.

James Holmes passed a check at 3 or 4 different stores. And Adam Lanza killed his own mother to gain access to firearms.

I still understand you're trolling but I don't want any on the fence to come in and think I can't refute every pro-gun-control point you make.
