AIG stats

I'm finding some differ stats from what you are posting

Please read my msg again. The 2nd quote is violent homicide not gun related homicide.

From your link:

quote:

There has been a pronounced change in the type of weapons used in homicide since monitoring began. Firearm use has declined by more than half since 1989-90 as a proportion of homicide methods, and there has been an upward trend in the use of knives and sharp instruments, which in 2006-07 accounted for nearly half of all homicide victims.

I think it does a good job pointing out that gun regs can have a substantial impact on reducing gun violence

It also refutes your point that gun reg don't and never will work

My point: "Gun laws don't lower violent crime"

So you actually need to pay better attention to what you read and watch.

And where in that sentence does it say we have an unalienable right to own/possess guns (which is what the previous poster was refering to?)

Do we have some unalienable rights? Debatable (since they all can be infringed upon for various reasons), is the right to own a gun one of them? No

Stewie, while I know you're trolling, I'll leave you with one last thought...

Obama is the best gun salesman in history and has been responsible for millions of background checks since his Feb 2008 election. This figure also does not reflect multiple gun purchases, which only require one check, or sales where a concealed carry permit acted as the background check.

So why has violent crime still been decreasing with millions more firearms in circulation? Guns in the right hands due to laws that promote freedom and responsible gun ownership usually result in freedom and responsible gun ownership.

I think the point of many anit-gun advocates is the capacity to do major harm very quickly. (Homicide rate/chart above)

Yeah, you can't stop all violence. You can reduce ability for mass violence.

And to that fact, since major gun regs, there hasn't been a mass shooting in kangaroo land.

I'm not saying what Australia will work here. I wanted to point out that developments are being made in various places...keep ideas circulating.

It's better to keep ahead of the arguments/ideas than try and stonewall them.

What would you suggest be done after the Boston bombing? Ban backpacks from holding pressure cookers?

You cannot legislate away evil. And you cannot stifle the criminal element by making it harder for law abiding people to defend themselves.

Just like Hypnos said, there are millions upon millions of gun owners that have never hurt anyone. We are not responsible for any of the mass killings in the past.

Sheeples gon' sheeple...
