re: Gun laws don't lower violent crime or even make guns harder to obtain. SHOCKER!

What is going to happen is the left will start going after gun owners and dealers in court. There is a lawsuit going on right now regarding the shop where I get my firearms and gunsmith work done.

I know the attorney representing the family pretty well, he is really pushing this hard along with the Brady folks.

quote:

Coday went into the Old Dairy Road gun shop on Aug. 2, 2006, and asked about buying a Ruger rifle, the lawsuit alleges. Coxe brought out a used .22-caliber rifle and showed it to Coday. Then Coxe went to another part of the store and left Coday alone with the weapon.

Coday took the weapon and left two $100 bills on the counter.

Then he bought ammunition and a hacksaw from Fred Meyer, across the highway.

A jury found that two days later, Coday shot Kim four times behind Fred Meyer. The murder appeared to be a random act of violence.

Kim, a painting contractor from Anchorage, was working on the Fred Meyer remodeling project at the time.

The Kim family hired Juneau attorney Mark Choate.

Choate contacted the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that does gun-control legal advocacy, to help on the case.

There's no video surveillance of Coday taking the gun. According to the complaint, a Rayco employee said one of the two video cameras wasn't recording because an employee forgot to change the tape, and the other had a broken tape in it.

The complaint says a "a reasonable jury would be justified in concluding" that the tapes did in fact exist, and that Coxe destroyed them to hide evidence that he "knowingly and illegally" sold the rifle to Coday for $200 without subjecting him to a background check.

quote:

The problem is that, I think, he's running a shop where he really depends upon the buyers' good characters, rather than having adequate security," said Choate. "I think he's a decent man. But the security was just abysmal.

The Alaska Supreme Court has sent a wrongful death lawsuit against a Juneau gun store owner back to Superior Court for further consideration.

In a mixed ruling handed down Friday, the state’s high court upheld the constitutionality of the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which shields gun manufacturers and sellers from criminal liability. But justices also said it’s possible that expert witness affidavits should have been considered before the civil suit was dismissed by the Superior Court.

The lawsuit stems from a 2006 shooting outside the Juneau Fred Meyer store that killed Simone Kim, a painter working on a building expansion project.

Convicted killer Jason Coday obtained the gun – a .22 Ruger rifle – at Rayco Sales, owned by Ray Coxe.

It is a common fantasy that gun bans make society safer. In 2002 -- five years after enacting its gun ban -- the Australian Bureau of Criminology acknowledged there is no correlation between gun control and the use of firearms in violent crime. In fact, the percent of murders committed with a firearm was the highest it had ever been in 2006 (16.3 percent), says the D.C. Examiner.

Even Australia's Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research acknowledges that the gun ban had no significant impact on the amount of gun-involved crime:

•In 2006, assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
•Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
•Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
Moreover, Australia and the United States -- where no gun-ban exists -- both experienced similar decreases in murder rates:

•Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America's rate dropped 31.7 percent.
•During the same time period, all other violent crime indices increased in Australia: assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
•Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
•Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
•At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.
•Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women.
While this doesn't prove that more guns would impact crime rates, it does prove that gun control is a flawed policy. Furthermore, this highlights the most important point: gun banners promote failed policy regardless of the consequences to the people who must live with them, says the Examiner.

From the AIC website:

quote:

While gun related homicide has dropped to an historic low of 13%, the proportion of people dying through stab wounds has increased from 30% to 41% over the last 10 years

I would love to see O spinning this. "Come on folks, the guns are gone! Things are great! What's a little raping here and there ? And with that stat, Hey Union Jim, how many more rape vans are yous guys rolling off the lines now that our women are defenseless? It's a win for everyone!"

So...would you rather get stabbed to death or shot to death? This is obviously the real question we as society must answer.

[quote] Sure it did... I thinkni read where violent crime went down like 9% last year.... Of course it went up like 35% after the gun ban Soooo.... +35%-9%= +26% increase overall in violent crime.... Yea your right its working. Guess daily show left out parts of the equation [quote]

Honestly, I'm not familiar with Australian laws or history of gun control/violence. I thought it was an interesting bit...especially since the sweeping gun regs were driven by conservatives.

I see these stats ... while interesting, I would like to know the source and what all they encompass.

I almost quit reading right there, but had to see what else you said.

think it does a good job pointing out that gun regs can have a substantial impact on reducing gun violence if a genuine effort is taken by all parties involved.

I hope your trolling and not that much of a libitard. Surely youve read or heard about thier crime rates since it passed. If you havent, you should get off your current news sites and try some others.

First of all, anyone trying to inhibit my right to self- defense (a God given right not a government granted right) is in essence threatening me with violent death.

I refuse to submit. Stewie if you are against firearms and self-defense, please, by all means, come and take them. From me and everyone else on this board who supports the 2nd Amendment.

[It's funny how the un-armed want to initiate force against the armed. It goes to show how disconnected they are.]

Otherwise, you are free to move somewhere like Chicago or NYC or California where such things are not allowed. I won't miss you.

Gun regulations do nothing but empower the state and criminals.

The naivety of liberals is both amazing and utterly incomprehensible.

I believe in inalienable rights.

I own my own body, not you or the government.

Who owns you?
